It’s finally here: registration for the Chicago Seminars 2022 is officially open!
–> Here is the link to the ticketing site.
When and Where are Chicago Seminars 2022?
The event is scheduled for October 21-23, 2022 at the Holiday Inn Chicago-Elk Grove in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
He is the event’s official FlyerTalk thread.
I recommend arriving Thursday or no later than Friday afternoon. You can usually find fellow attendees in the hotel bar and restaurant swapping tips, ideas, and stories. (I’ll be there sometime Thursday.)
I’m thankful we’re able to meet again in person. I’ve missed seeing so many of my points and miles friends. (And I desperately need new stock pictures for the blog!
What Topics are Covered?
Points, miles, loyalty programs, saving money, and credit cards are the general focus of the Chicago Seminars. If you want to get a feel for past events:
Who’s Speaking?
More than a dozen speakers have been announced. (I’m one of them and plan to speak sometime Friday evening.)

- Me!
- Greg Davis-Kean of Frequent Miler
- Dave Homyak, bikeguy
- Rick Ingersoll The original Frugal Travel Guy (an O.G. points and miles blog) and Chicago Seminars founder
- Kathy Kass of Will Run for Miles
- Julian Kheel of CNN Underscored
- Stefan Krasowski of Rapid Travel Chai
- Ashley McCurdy of In Search of Traveler
- Marty Paz, Mrp Alert
- Shae & Stephen Pepper of GC Galore, No Home Just Roam, Frequent Miler
- Nick Reyes of Frequent Miler

The Chicago Seminars is a volunteer-run event. Staff and speakers are not being paid. (Despite what certain other people and blogs may claim.) Proceeds from ticket and raffle sales go to charity.

Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite. They’re $135 per person.
Admission includes:
- Access to conference sessions
- Coffee and snacks
- Lunch on Saturday and Sunday
- Happy hour Saturday night (which is usually one or two complimentary wines or beers)
Hotel booking links will be sent after you purchase your ticket. Breakfast is generally included in the Seminar rate.
What’s the Closest Airport to the Chicago Seminars?
O’Hare (ORD) is about 15 minutes away. If you fly into Midway (MDW), expect a long drive and hefty cab or Uber-Lyft fare.
Should You Go to the Chicago Seminars?
If you read this and other Boarding Area blogs, you’ll probably be interested in attending. There’s so much to learn. And most of the fellow attendees are very laid back and friendly. (Plus, the hotel restaurant’s French fries and burgers are amazing.) If you are new-ish to the points and miles hobby, I highly recommend this event.
Also, there are a few topics some bloggers aren’t supposed to discuss on their blogs. But you know what’s weird? There’s sometimes some bean-spilling during Chicago Seminars presentations and panels. And almost assuredly at the bar. (Alcohol seems to get people talking. Strange, right?)
I love attending this event. This is my first time speaking at the Chicago Seminars — and I booked my flights months ago, long before I was asked to speak. That’s how excited I am every year. I always have a great time — and have met people there I consider good friends.

It the date for Chicago Seminar now firm ?
When will registration open
Hotel still HI Elk grove
Is event likely to move permanently third weekend as has historically been in past
That is all the information we have available right now. I’d be shocked if the hotel weren’t the HI Elk Grove Village. I bet registration will open up some time in August or so.
@Chris Carley any updated info on registration? Is August still a target date?
Hi, Randy. I haven’t heard anything definitive. That said, I booked flights to Chicago knowing I can cancel them if the event doesn’t happen. But last time I talked to Stefan, he said things looked like a go. I’ll check in again.
Awesome. I think I’ll also plan as if it’s going to happen and make sure I book with a easily cancellable currency just in case things change. I’ll follow this thread for updates.
I would love to join you, in fact I have had my plane tickets for months and was all ready to go until I found out that because I followed my doctors advice and did not get vaccinated I’m not welcome. Really?? Aren’t we over this yet?
This makes no sense at all. I’m truly disappointed that the organizers are still perpetuating these decisive attitudes. There is no science and no CDC recommendations behind this decision. If you are vaccinated you can get and spread Covid, if you are not, you can get it and spread it. Why punish those who chose not to be vaccinated?
I have been to dozens of events this year, small and large, in red and blue states and not one, including two FTU’s, have had this policy. Some required testing for the unvaccinated and although that makes no sense either, I was fine doing that to attend.
I would hope that the organizer’s would reconsider and help us get on with our lives by allowing all to attend!!
@Chris Carley Can’t seem to find the link to purchase tickets? Am I overlooking? If it’s available can you please reply?
Thanks in advance.
@Randy – They have not yet opened up ticket sales. They said 8/15 but the link is not yet live in the Flyertalk post here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/external-miles-points-resources/2090054-official-12th-chicago-seminars-october-21-23-2022-a.html
@René Good deal. Thanks for letting me know and sharing the link. I will watch the FT post for updates and the link to purchase when it goes live.
Thanks again and have an awesome day!
