If you love Disney parks — or there’s a Disney-phile in your life — you might want to sink your teeth into this new, unofficial cookbook containing 100 recipes from six Disney theme parks!
Author Ashley Craft’s aptly titled The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook: From Delicious Dole Whip to Tasty Mickey Pretzels, 100 Magical Disney-Inspired Recipes is full of “copycat” recipes of foods you’d find at Disneyland, Magic Kindgom, Animal Planet, California Adventure, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The book includes supplies you need and “Disney Parks Cooking 101” section.
How Authentic Are the Recipes?
As noted in a recent Los Angeles Daily News interview, Ms. Craft isn’t a chef by trade. Rather, she’s a Disney enthusiast and blogger. In the Daily News piece, she stresses:
“The foods that they make in the parks are typically made by third parties. A lot of them come prepackaged or made in a factory. And then it’s prepared on site. So those kinds of things are not possible to be made in a home kitchen, period.
The way Dole Whip is made at the Disney parks is that Dole has made a powder that you mix with water and put it into an industrial ice cream machine. Obviously you are not going to make a powder at home. That’s not possible. So when Disney put out their official “Dole Whip Recipe” just a few months ago, it wasn’t the Dole Whip recipe, it was just them creating a copycat for you to make at home.”
Disney park cookbooks in and of themselves aren’t anything new. Ms. Craft’s, though, has gotten amazing reviews (some of the other ones, not so much) and it’s now a USA Today bestseller.
I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. But for Disney park lovers, it could be something fun in the kitchen.
