The 2020 Chicago Seminars are officially happening!

Like many events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are a bunch of changes to this year’s get-together.

It takes place online, is only three hours long (as opposed to the usual three days), and is only $11. And it has a snazzy title: the “Chicago Seminars 2020 Variety Show”!

One thing is the same, though: proceeds from event registration go to charity.

When is the 2020 Chicago Seminars?

The 2020 Chicago Seminars live stream begins at 11:00 AM Eastern / 8:00 AM Pacific on Saturday, October 17. If you can’t make that date or time, the event will be available for replay. (As part of your $11 registration fee.)

Who is Speaking?

Rapid Travel Chai’s Stefan Krasowski is organizing and hosting the shindig.

Taking part are a slate of folks such as:

  • Dia Adams
  • Thomas Carnevale
  • Shawn Coomer & Mark Ostermann
  • Zachary Finkelstein
  • Tiffany Funk
  • Dave Homyak
  • Matthew Klint
  • Henning Mente
  • Marty Paz & JJ Todd
  • Howie Rappaport
  • Nick Reyes & Stephen Pepper
  • Jamal Robinson

On the event’s official FlyerTalk page, Stefan writes he’s “working on something for attendees to interact. Candidates are Slack, Discord, Facebook group, and more.”

What are the Charities?

  • Airline Ambassadors International
  • Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund
  • Semper Fi Fund
  • UNICEF

Where Can You Register for the Chicago Seminars?

Here’s the event’s registration page.

Save with Chase Freedom (and Flex) with PayPal!

You can pay your registration fee with a debit card (but why would you do that?), credit card, or PayPal.

If you have a Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Flex®, consider using PayPal to pay for your 2020 Chicago Seminars registration fee!
If you have a Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Flex®, consider using PayPal to pay for your 2020 Chicago Seminars registration fee!

Keep in mind that PayPal is one this quarter’s Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex® 5% bonus cashback categories. You’ll only get 55 cents worth of Ultimate Rewards points — but every little bit counts! 🙂

Final Approach

I always look forward to the Chicago Seminars. Many of us are disappointed the event can’t take place in person — nor would it probably be safe for all of us to attend a crowded conference. But it’s great Stefan found a way to bring the event online — and line up a great bunch of “variety show” participants. 😉

Will you attend this year’s virtual event?

I just paid $25 to watch a guy make a pizza for 2 hours. I would gladly have paid more than $11, since the money goes to charity. Paid my $11

That must have been one hell of a pizza.

What can attendees expect? I’ve never attended any of these conferences in person. Do they often uncover new techniques for our hobby?

People share information about travel, credit cards, loyalty programs, etc. Not sure what it’ll be like this year in the virtual setting, but I was willing to risk my $11 🙂

FWIW, here are some links to previous years’ events in case you want to see their program lineups:

      2016
      2017
      2018
      2019

I love attending the events. There’s plenty of good information shared — especially in the bar and restaurant — and I always meet new friends every year.

Got my email this morning too. Was sad to see only 3hrs? It would have been cool to do virtual break-out rooms like the live seminars. Now thinking about that René & you have hosted break out rooms you should think of doing one (virtual) after the seminar 1hr or so we can talk about all things Delta and gear up for 2021!

There may be a bit more in store for this event yet. Stay tuned. No promises.

Broadly, I don’t have capacity to take on a full-blown virtual conference at this time, the platforms alone are complicated and pricey.

We do something fun and different for the community this time and build from there. Looking forward to seeing you all online.

I registered this morning. So sad there is not going to be a traditional Chicago Seminar. I love seeing my friends there. It’s a major event for me every year!

Glad it’s happening, too bad it’s on the Jewish Sabbath.

Barry, we stuck with tradition for the event on a Saturday. In-person allowed some creative approaches for attendees observing the Jewish Sabbath that won’t be possible online. The event will be recorded and can be accessed later on replay. There is also an attendees FB group already active.
