I admit it – I am frugal – ok cheap. But while I am frugal I still like nice things. I like to fly 1st class for free on points (gosh I miss this). If not 1st class then Delta One will do very nicely as well (well, when we no longer need a COVID mask that is). Heck I will even pay for a business class ticket to keep my status so I can be cheap and get “free” upgrades for the next year (see this morning’s live post).
With all this in mind I hate – I mean HATE – leaving any credits on the table. Be it Delta vouchers or any other voucher I want to spend them before they expire. I have, since February when I last traveled, hated getting the monthly reminders from UBER that my monthly Amex Platinum card $15 credit is about to expire. Clearly – I can not use my credits the way I normally do because it is simply not safe to travel right now.
Ah but wait…. What about Uber Eats you say (you can use UBER credits with Uber Eats fyi)?
It has been forever, well in “travel years” anyway, that Uber Eats has not been available in the area I live. I did sign up for the notify me when available but… cue the post title….
But have I checked over the past few months – since I have been stuck at home not traveling?
Clearly… NOOOOOOO! (René – you idiot)
When Uber Eats the other day e-mailed me that I could get 75% off my next order (this promo HELLOAGAIN is targeted but test it and see if you can load it anyway) I decided to open up the Uber Eats app and again get a slap in the face that I could not use it from home when…..
DOGH! It opened up the place an order screen. You idiot – how many credits have gone poof this year! Sigh….
The result, after the discount code, and my Amex Platinum monthly credit was I got dinner almost free delivered to my front door!
What to take from this (other than I am an idiot who got points lazy)? Even though most of us are wisely stuck at home we should not stop thinking about all things points. Not just spending every single credit the card companies are tossing at us but fishing for retention offers (some are epic just now) as well as looking for ways to collect points so that when we can again travel all over this amazing planet that has been give to us to enjoy – we can do so once again! – René
PS – Have you made any stupid human points moves this year? Do share – you will make us feel better by feeling your pain!
