A Delta Air Lines flight from Palm Beach to New York’s LaGuardia airport was diverted Monday evening after a reported birdstrike after sustaining hail damage.
DL1076 didn’t have to go too far of its way, though: it ended up landing at neighboring airport JFK. The Airbus A319 (tail number N342NB) touched down at Kennedy just past 6:30 P.M.
Initial reports said the aircraft sustained damage because of a plane vs. bird incident. That’s the information we relayed in our original post this morning. Reader Geoff responded, “Did they hit an ostrich?”
Alas, no. It was hail the flight apparently encountered ugly weather at various points throughout its route.
ABC journalist Aaron Katersky reports 43 passengers were aboard. He also obtained this picture:
