Executive Tower King Room and Regency Club at Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago Airport Hotel Review

Large. Aging in some spots. (Are we talking about me?) Classy in others. (Definitely not talking about me 🙂 )

This is what comes to mind when I think of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago.

I recently enjoyed a short but decent stay at this airport hotel. I also fit in a couple of visits to its Regency Club.

There was a small hiccup, but the front desk rep made it up to me.

Why I Chose the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago

I attended the recent Chicago Seminars and noticed the annual anniversary night from my Hyatt credit card (the old one) was very close to expiration. Like, that weekend. So I decided to check out the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago airport hotel and be a little closer to the airport before my flight home.

The anniversary night (which is also included with the “new” World of Hyatt credit card) awards cardholders a complimentary night at a category 1-4 property. The Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago is a category 2, so it worked just fine with my cert.

Entrance and Lobby

Hotel reception is located on the second floor. Take the below escalators up to the main lobby. (I was reminded a little of the United Club at LAX and the central Delta Sky Club in Detroit.)

The lobby is very spacious and houses two restaurants and a bar.

Some parts of the “main” tower are accessible by using these glass elevators.

Even though my room was in a separate tower without glass elevators (lame! 😉 ), I took a ride (or two. Or maybe more.) in the glass elevators just for fun. The views are great (my pictures were blurry — fail, I know, sorry) and the ride is like a darn rocket ship. Two thumbs up, highly recommended.

Checking In

Something that really stood out about this hotel was the staff. Everyone I encountered was energetic, happy, and welcoming. I experienced that immediately while checking in.

After fulfilling my request for an airport view room, the front desk rep very enthusiastically asked if I wanted any complimentary bottled water that comes with my World of Hyatt Explorist status. Each time I’ve checked into a Hyatt since the World of H2O Hyatt refresh, the front desk reps were quite excited to offer water.

How could I say no?

I don’t stay at Hyatts very often and still have some of the $300 travel credit left on my Chase Sapphire Reserve®, so I used that card for my incidentals.

The guest services rep saw I was walking toward the wrong tower. He flagged me down and personally showed me where to go.

Executive King Room

I didn’t arrive at the hotel until the early evening. It was dark outside when I entered my room; clouds hung low outside, so my airport view wasn’t exactly exciting. (No fault of the Hyatt’s, obviously.) So there aren’t any fun #AvGeek-worthy pictures. Sorry.

The room is rather spacious. The king bed is big and I found it very comfortable.

You probably can’t tell from just a picture but this television is huge. I’m guessing it’s in the 60-inch neighborhood (which was great for watching football in bed later that night!).

The lamp below is where you’ll find the desk area’s power outlets.

If you use multiple devices (laptop, tablet, cell phone, and maybe something else), consider bringing a travel power strip like this one both René and I love.

One side of the bed features two power outlets —

— while the other has a ChargePort unit.

You definitely notice some wear and tear on the walls and ChargePort. The nightstand is very Northwest Airlines World Club chíc.

Need some noise to help you fall alseep — but without the glare and blue light from a television? You’ll probably dig the room’s HoMedics speaker featuring sound effects such as a babbling brook, rain, and white nosie.

The bathroom is nice. Nothing amazing. I’ve certainly seen worse hotel bathrooms.

Hyatt hasn’t gone the way of IHG and Marriott, nor was this hotel in California. So no refillable, shower wall-mounted toiletries here.

The shower, however, didn’t have any hot water at 6:30 AM. When I brought this to the front desk’s attention, the rep kindly comped my light dinner from the night before and apologized profusely.

She handled it well — and I left a happy (but somewhat chilly!) guest.

Room service ends at 11:30 PM (What is this?! Camping in the wilderness?! 😉 ) But guests may order take-out 24 hours a day from one of the hotel’s restaurants. (Or just use Grubhub.)

Regency Club Lounge at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago

My Explorist status gives me four annual Regency Club lounge passes. Even though I was basically at the hotel for a quick evening and some sleep, I carved out some time to visit the club.

You’ll find the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago’s Regency Club to the left of the check-in desks.

It’s open every day from 5:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Eligible guests may use their room key to enter.

Breakfast — which is served beginning at 6:30 AM — is definitely the club’s star.

The World of Hyatt app advertised the Regency Club as serving evening hors d’oeuvres. So I pictured something like ravioli, chicken skewers, or something like that.

Uh, no.

You’re totally in luck, though, if bread, veggies, tortilla chips, and cheese are your thing!

I understand the hotel wants guests to use the restaurants. Truth be told, that tactic worked on me; I later visited the bar for some chicken wings and soda — which cost $22 (before being zeroed out the next morning).

The Regency Club has a self-serve bar for guests — and operates on the honor system.

So, let me get this straight: I should tip for the privilege of pouring my own glass of wine? Sorry, no.

Also, feel free to give yourself a generous pour for the five or eight bucks you’re paying.

A couple of red and white wines were available, along with several different bottled beers.

Hard liquor-wise, I saw Beefeater, Jim Beam, and Bombay in a cupboard guests may also access.

Attendants pop in the Regency Club every so often to check stock, answer questions, and that sort of thing. (Maybe they get the tip from the self-serve honor bar?)

I met two different attendants: one at night, and the other the following morning. Both were very pleasant and personable.

Airport Shuttle

The Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago has a complimentary airport shuttle. And while ORD is pretty close to the hotel, keep in mind that it’s a very busy airport. I left the hotel around 7:00 AM, as morning rush was well underway. It took over 20 minutes to arrive at the Delta terminal. (I was told that it’s normally a 5-10 minute ride during non-busy periods.)

The driver was very friendly, thanked everyone for staying at the Hyatt, and assisted every passenger with his or her luggage. He definitely earned a tip.
