Boeing appears to have fulfilled its orders with Delta.
Enrique Perrella writes at Airways magazine that 737 Next Gen plane N930DZ arrived yesterday in Atlanta. In the past nine years, Delta ordered 130 of the 737-900 ER planes. (Not to be confused with the 737 MAX — none of which Delta flies.)
The only new aircraft Delta will receive — at least for the time being — are Airbus equipment. Several A330-900neos will soon join the mothership’s fleet (remember Delta deferred a number of its A350 order). Delta recently announced the A220 will serve more routes.
And Delta placed a large A321neo order less than two years ago — luckily choosing that product over the 737 MAX.
End of an Era?
Don’t yet write eulogies for all the Boeing planes you’ve loved. (Although, one can’t help but get nostalgic for the Queen of the Skies.)
Hundreds of the Seattle-based company’s planes in Delta livery will roam skies for the foreseeable future.
Keep in mind Delta is refreshing its 767-400 ERs with an updated Delta One product. Starting November 4, all flights between LAX and JFK will exclusively be flown with 767-300s.
Do You Have a Favorite (Or Otherwise) Delta Boeing Plane?
Does seeing any specific Delta-painted Boeing planes make you smile? Personally, I have great memories of international flights on 767s, so they’re sort of my favorite. The loooong 757-300s always catch my attention, too.
Do you have a favorite Boeing plane to ride when flying Delta? Does one not get you too excited? (Remember: the CRJ-200 is not a Boeing product 😉 )

747 to Narita… RIP
I still miss her.
Agree on the 747 to NRT. A lovely ride, back in the NWA days.
The transition to Airbus started pre-merger. NWA was ordering Airbuses at that time, and when NWA management took over the combined company (only reason it was called Delta and headquartered in Atlanta due to smart strings tied to their mid-2000s bankruptcy by Georgia pols, even though NWA took over the entire place) they continued their preference for buying Airbus. A better product all around.
Make Boeing Great Again
Love Delta’s Airbus strategy… I used to be a Boeing fan, from I guess being close minded and overly proud of American products, but endless flights later, Airbus products really stand out in many ways and best for passenger comfort. A350 is better than B878, A320 is better than B737… Glad this is the last of Boeing for Delta. Go Airbus!
My favorite — Top deck Delta One 747. The best!
Since the 757 production came to an end I feel Airbus makes the most sense for narrow body aircraft and Boeing for widebody. The A320 is just a solid plane and Airbus really did well developing the A321neo and xlr. 777s and 787s still beat out the A330neos and A350s. If Boeing comes out with a clean sheet design to fill the 757 market it would be great.
Agreed, first row, upstairs on B747 to Asia. Time to really enjoy – meals, movies, work and sleep all in “private”. Domestically, really like B757 boarding in middle of the plane.
The Boeing I like best in Delta’s current fleet is the 777-200. The 747 upper deck was the best business-class cabin in the sky. Although Airbus planes are generally slightly wider than many of their Boeing counterparts, comfort on a plane is the responsibility of the airline rather than the manufacturer. A 777 that is nine across in economy is a much different experience from a 777 that is 10 across. My favorite airplane is the 787-9 followed by the 777-300. Too bad Delta has no plans to acquire Dreamliners.
Next we’ll be speaking French.
This is Delta supporting American jobs.
Never been impressed by the Airbus fleet except the 330 which I found as good as the 777.
