It is crunch time so “value” that is cost per mile to earn your MQMs matters little from this point out. The point of this one is you can at any coach price score 10,000 Delta MQMs quickly. If you need them, get ready for some time on a Delta jet!
Do keep in mind if you have not had the Delta Amex Reserve personal or business card you still have time to pick that up and get 10,000 MQMs for the non-waved $450 first year fee (plus you get into the Sky Clubs for a year free when you fly Delta)!
If it were me, I would be happy to pay $90 for a shot at upgrades vs the E BASIC fare but I have posted both (you can at least see the MQMs are the same). Also, if it were me, I would look at paying a bit more and maybe staying a few days to end the year in Hawaii (cuz it’s better than NYC that time of year – right)!
Here are the many days open weekday numbers:
Cost: $599 for BASIC E Class fare (no upgrades)
10,093 MQMs at 5.9 CPM
Cost: $689 for mixed X/V Class fare (YES upgrades are possible)
10,093 MQMs at 6.8 CPM

The 10k MQMs with the Reserve are only after hitting spend, right?
@Brian – Correct. But there is time before year end.
But if you get the delta platinum business card and hit the ~$1000 THIS YEAR it takes Delta like a 6 weeks to get them 5K MQMs. It’s a crap shoot when you call Amex to get someone capable on the line to confidently answer these questions. So is it when the MQMs hit your account or when you hit the spend limit? I think technically I have until February 1, 2019 or is it 12/31/18 to get the MQMs. THX
Sorry if this is duplicate post but if you get the card, quickly spend $1K on a Delta Amex – when do the 5K MQMs hit your Delta account? Are you time bound by EOY in 2018 or is it as long as you hit the $1K spending in 2018 then you’re guaranteed to have the 5K MQMs count toward your current Delta status which ends 2/1/19? Thx
Hi, just did a mileage run left on Tuesday, December 4th from West Palm Beach, FL to Kunming, China, returned on Friday, December 7th.
Paid $705, used a Global upgrade cert on the outbound, no availability for Globals on the return, but was in Comfort class. In Delta One by accident the flight attendant spilled orange juice on my and sent 10,000 miles to my account.
Came out to 18,880 MQMs, plus 10,000 bonus miles, plus the mileage based on the fare of about 6,500.
There are still plenty of cheap fares to China that make great mileage runs, but none of these will start out of the major airports like Atlanta, JFK, LAX, got to look for a smaller airport to start from.
