This morning I shared how you can spend a Saturday on a Delta Mileage Run and actually have a great time along the way. On the way back I was presented with two lunch choices. One was a vegetarian lasagna. The other was what you see above, that is, a Cold (grilled) Salmon Arugula Lunch Salad. First what was included (as best as I could tell):
- Nice piece of cold salmon
- Arugula
- Baby brussel sprouts
- Cherry tomatoes
- Purple potatoes
- Feta cheese
- Yellow squash
- Red pepper slivers
- A few other bits
- Sourdough Flat bread crisps
First things first. I am not really a “fish guy”. I like fish but it has to be really mild. I love grilled Tuna for example but warm Salmon does not really appeal to me. Cold salmon, however, I find very nice and this Delta offering was top notch! Plus, since it is a real challenge to warm up food on an airplane anyway, I find cold choices often are better when done right.
This meal was done right. There was ample salmon and salad. Next, being able to get a fork of all the other included bits, with a little fish, kept each bite fresh and interesting. My wife loves brussel sprouts – I am indifferent about them but here they worked in this dish.
Next up was dessert. A sponge cake with lemon layer and frosting sprinkled with shredded coconut. Long time readers know that to me lemon is not a food flavor but furniture polish so with the lemon layer removed the rest was quite nice. My guess is if you like lemon that too would have been nice.
I also love that Delta almost always also provides fruit and cheese as I would rather have a savory dessert. I am always so impressed how Delta gets such good quality fruit almost every meal no matter where they are flying out of or what time of the year.
Would I order this again is the real test of an airline meal. You bet I would and I chose my seat on the jet so I could get 1st choice with FEBO in mind and it was observed by the flight attendants thankfully on my flight! – René
