Well this is interesting. Don’t get me wrong, I am still no fan of this card as a card to be used for any kind of spending as there are any number of better cards that offer better returns. But as a downgrade card to keep say your oldest open card alive I see the logic and if over time the new Blue can have more perks then that idea becomes an even more solid reason to hold this no fee card long term.
In case you are not aware, Delta and Amex run these pop-up DeltaAmexPerks events now and then including the chance for no fee top shelf drinks in the Sky Clubs a few times a year (some really top shelf drinks excluded).
I think the biggest downside of the Blue, that could swing my opinion the other way as to getting the card, would be if it could be used with PWM or Pay With Miles. When it first launched Delta advertised on Delta.com that you COULD use the Delta Amex Blue with PWM but quickly updated the site to now show that outstanding perk is only for the Gold, Platinum and Reserve card holders (btw the Amex Blue T&C never stated you could PWM, only the info graphics on Delta.com).
I do not see bag fee waivers coming to the Blue as why would Delta give up lucrative bag fees for a card that cost you nothing to hold each year. But I think they could add the Zone 1 boarding as a card member perk if they wanted to as that really is Group 4 anyway. All they would be doing is rewarding card members with a shot at overhead space.
What do you think. What other perks could Delta and Amex add to the Delta AMex Blue card that would convince you to either get or hold this card long term? – René

This is not a recommendation for this card; however Delta Amex free upgrade drinks can turn into a hell of a lounge crawl at ATL or DTW.
@John – In ATL yes. Not so in DTW as no “luxury bars” i.e. bar tenders in Detroit yet.
Where did this come from? I have a Delta Plat card and never heard about “special Delta Perks”.. Where can I get more info?
@Russ – The link is in the post. Click on DeltaAmexPerks to find more.
