This is a disturbing reminder that a cruise ship, while an amazing place to vacation, has many hazards we must be aware of and you can get seriously injured even while the ship is docked.
Crew-center.com today posted that a A 61-year-old Dutch passenger stayed on the ship to lounge by the pool while the Grandiosa was Florence when the accident occurred. They write:
“While lounging by the pool, an unexpected accident with a sun lounger resulted in part of his finger being amputated. The ship’s doctor quickly intervened, preserving the segment that was detached and controlling the bleeding. Around noon, a call to emergency services prompted the arrival of ambulances from the Misericordia of Antignano.“
Yikes!
I have to say if the chairs on the Grandiosa were anything like the chairs on my ill fated MSC Divina cruise I could see how this could happen. These chairs are simply the absolute worst loungers I have ever encountered on a ship or anywhere else. Lots of pinch points and almost impossible to find a comfortable position to sit and read.
From slamming heavy room doors to falling down stairs and so much more – we need to be alert to our soundings when boarding the ship moving about as well at port! – René
