I had the chance to spend some time at the Delta Sky Club in EWR recently after my just amazing day at the PGA event on SPG points. I remember a very long time ago visiting this club and it looks very much the same (well, mostly that is).

You can get in with a number of AMEX cards or, if you are a Skyteam elite plus status and are on a coach or anyone on a business class international departing (or connecting) ticket, you can also get in free.

Check in and the service desk in this small club are combined into one just right of entrance. You also have some very strange seating should you want to sit and watch everyone who enters the lounge.

Next time, I am thinking, I may sit there and take photos of everyone who enters just to watch the reactions. Or something else (we will see). Another thing you will notice (I hope) as soon as you enter is the blue sign on a painters easel.

Yeah Delta also knows this club is in DESPERATE need of an update. As much as some folks in New York complain about LGA it is way better than this airport and Sky Club.

I think the ultimate statement of what is needed is the MEGA sign at the Delta gates as well as the fan stuck on the sign to even more so emphasize the need for help. I should also mention when we arrived it was raining and there were buckets and fans running everywhere.

And when you look at the condition of the seats in this club you will see the grime and threadbare seats are beyond embarrassing for ANY type of club let alone a Sky Club. Just nasty.

Back to a tour of the club. Left of entrance you have the main seating area. A large L shaped room.

There is a quiet room, but for me the work areas you will see in a bit are a better choice.

We chose to sit back in this area, and to call it dirty would be kind. Yuck.

Right behind the wall / center area when you enter is where food service is found. It was breakfast time so standard Sky Club choices. Bagels were good (it is NYC area after all) but the fruit was less than the normal great quality you normally find in Delta’s lounges. Disappointments in this lounge just keep coming.

Lastly we have the full service bar that was staged for juice and coffee / tea.

Then right of check-in we have a small seating area with a TV (hey kid get out of my shot) 🙂

We also have over in this area (as well as right behind the wall from the food service area) work cubes. I like this semi private setup compared to the more open Delta modern one in the clubs but that is what I expect in the new club as well.

You also have what is stock in all Sky Clubs (or just about) a network printer and shredder.

The industrial view really is fitting for this club considering how “rustic” it is in its current form, shall we say. Clearly Delta is working on an upgrade and it cannot come soon enough this winter. This is one tired Sky Club. – René

So you got a Delta $200 voucher. What now & how to spend it? Also why do you think Delta offered a $200 voucher vs. only SkyMiles?

yup this is my airport. surprised you don’t like ewr ‘s delta terminal. It’s small and i never have line at tsa pre check or regular line that is more than 5 minutes (4pm – 5pm) midweek. Sure term is small but that’s what is good about it. try JFK where tsa is crazy and the walk/jitney to your gate can be a marathon.

Agreed the D Club is a waste of time. i just stopped going there, not worth it.

@Eric – I really like the SkyDeck on the JFK Sky Club. Nice AVgeek views. I don’t have an issue EWR itself but the Delta area needs a refresh!

Isn’t DL swapping gates with UA between EWR and JFK? Or not anymore?

My issue with Sky Club ay JFK is it’s too crowded. They really need another Sky Club. Or push premium passengers to Air France or Virgin Atlantic’s lounges.
