Winter is over (well, officially anyway)! Spring is here and spring break travel fun (well, it is supposed to be fun)? As mentioned last week I am working on a mega back to back cruise booking this past week and learning lots of changes are up with my favorite NCL but more on that later. For now:
- Oh my was this a nightmare for a bunch of guests. FOX 9 news from Minneapolis reported on two sisters, who had overcome dramatic medical issues this past year, were left abandoned by their travel agent at the dock while the ship sailed away! And not just them – up to 50 others as well per the report due to the Carnival ship being oversold.
- Never been on a cruise before? What are the “must do” things before you go? I think the sisters who got left at the dock in Miami would have GREATLY benefited from reading this post and these ideas. Then again I think even Frequent Floaters can see if they check off all these boxes as well as tips from readers in the comments section of the post.
- ThatGuy (onboard) who is our resident pro and has worked on cruise ships for most of his career has his take on if it is wise to book excursions on the ship or from 3rd party folks (or even just ashore). He has seen it all so it is good to get his take on what can and does happen.
- I think anyone reading this is wise enough to never fly down the day the ship departs because the risk is just too high. I was entertained to learn our RCI guy MJ had done this before and his first flight went “mechanical” and he had to take the next one (but still made it). To help us Oceania has an offer that includes a free hotel night before you cruise – a brilliant idea?
- Lastly, unless you applied early this week when Chris posted, you have MISSED THE BOAT on the latest Delta Skymiles card offers. But if you want to see how massive the cuts in the offer they normally have live vs. the enhanced offers you can see the old post and compare what you missed out on (wow the current offer is low). There are naturally better offers live if you do need airline points!
Have a safe travel weekend everyone if you are up in the air for spring break and as they say be sure to pack your patience as I think you are going to need it! – René
