The Delta pilots chat boards are all ablaze with the rumor that either tomorrow, or very soon, Delta will be announcing a large order for a number of Bombardier CS series jets. What kinds of numbers are being bantered about? Over 100 jets with options to buy more. These could be a great replacement for the 140 MD 88/90 jets that are now 18-25 years old that Delta flies.
I posted a number of weeks ago when the old CEO of Delta, Richard Anderson, said “So we are taking a very serious look at it” and that has me most excited.
Since I am not going to own them (nor do I hold or plan to hold any DAL stock) my focus is not how much fuel these will save compared to older similar passenger aircraft Delta currently flies or even the modern avionics etc. No, for me it is all about the PaxEx or passenger experience, that is, the inside of the CS jets.
When you look at the possibility for amazing things like a LARGER center seat (19″ wide), when you are stuck on the “3” side of the jet, that impresses me. Not just that but all the interior improvements this jet brings makes me really want to fly in it! That is saying a lot for a narrow body jet.
Anyway all of this is unconfirmed and just rumor but considering Bombardier really needs to sell a bunch of these jets and Delta has a habit of negotiating really good prices and lastly there is a real need to find something to replace aging jets – I think word could be on the way soon (or at least I hope so)! – René
UPDATE: More interesting speculations from John from @laptoptravel who often guest posts here on the blog. Good stuff.

I’d love to see the CS-Series jets join the Delta fleet. I think it’ll be more in the CS300 variety vs the smaller CS100. With their range I could see more point to point flying from midsize markets as demand dictates.
Has any other airline ordered? Heard a rumor that a low carrier Asia airline did
@Anirudh – See this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bombardier_CSeries_orders
Bombardier makes the C-Series sound so great. I fully expect the US carriers to find a way to ruin it, however.
Hi Rene!
I did mention your site in the texte I have published this morning, but I did not put the link sorry about that. About Delta and the C Series order, how solid is the rumour, after all BBD and Delta had a long time commercial relation and Delta is the biggest CRJ customer.
@Andre – Well a rumor is just that so not sure how “solid” any rumor can be. But it seems pilots are talking and a few have said Mr. Ed has said “when” we get CS jets so that is what I know. As to time, who knows. It seems today will not be the day but the day is not over yet.
Rene – I love the “old” MD88/90s! Especially the 2 side with my girl friend. Good post.
You got our hopes up Rene! Still hope your rumor turns out to be true. Would love to see the CS jets in the Delta fleet.
So Reuters brings out the news about Delta’s putting on a jet order maybe C Series. I like to consider myself on of the top when it comes to Bombardier new. But when it is about Delta, you definitely are the top. Great job!
