Available Dates in April / May
Well, Spring is here and it is time to start thinking about some beach vacations, well for me that is anytime! But here is a quasi-Mileage Run that is to one of my favorite island destinations; Aruba!
That’s right, Delta is offering a great fare between San Diego and Aruba. You can stay one night or three for this great fare (as low as $375 on some dates.) You also earn a good chunk of Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s) 8,000+ if you route through New York’s JFK Airport in at least one direction. You are flying (in my example) a Boeing 737 on all segments, so nothing fantastic but you should also be able to get some complimentary upgrades if you have the status and select your segments carefully. Remember that Medallions can still get complimentary upgrades on flights to/from the Caribbean. Aruba is also as far south as you can go and enjoy that benefit in the Caribbean with Delta. In case you don’t know exactly where Aruba is, it is just north off the coast of Venezuela, more than 1,110 miles south of Miami!
This trip is a great opportunity to fly across the country and still be eligible for a complimentary upgrade (they still do that, right?) and not have to worry about being “locked out” on the TRANSCONS where Delta will not allow an Complimentary Upgrade: Those are JFK to/from San Francisco or Los Angeles DeltaONE where those upgrades cost you some type of instrument (GUC’s, RUC’s or miles-with certain fare classes).
Nope this is a great little run that works to get you deep into the Caribbean on a beach island nation.
A great tip for this fare would be to use FlexPerks and book the trip for only 20,000 points! Now that would be a sweet deal!
Anyway here are the numbers:
The Details:
MQM’s: 8,003 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s)
Fare: $375
Cost: 4.68 Cents Per Mile (CPM)
Please login to your Delta account before you click on the booking link below:
This link books through Delta.com – DIRECT BOOKING LINK
This fare is eligible for Pay With Miles (if you are paying directly, not with FlexPerks), if you want to “buy down” the fare. You will still get the MQM’s, but you are reducing your redeemable miles as they are tied to the base fare PAID.
I like this trip since it is still before Delta’s change on Comfort+ booking policies. That happens for travel on or after May 16th, 2016. There are many Comfort+ seats still available for your selection on these four segments. Thank you for visiting and following us, hopefully throughout 2016 here at Renes Points and Elite Mileage Runs
I also suggest that you take the time to read this article I wrote on Mobile Passport and load it onto your mobile device before taking this trip and see how great it works in the Atlanta Airport (not available yet for JFK, but coming this year!)
