We are currently seeing a theme in Mileage Runs…and I actually have two posts today for the beautiful, sunny shores of San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a Hawaii-raised flyer, I am naturally drawn to these beach destinations for Mileage Runs. In fact, in a few days I will actually be doing my own 15,000 MQM Mileage Run to Costa Rica for a crazy $230.40 and 15,000 SkyMiles for a ridiculous 1.20 CPM! (the wife gave her blessings and said I had to do this at this price!) The other post, Las Vegas to San Juan can be found here at this LINK
Now, let us look at our first Mileage Run to San Juan.
I worked the numbers and actually had this fare down to $405 but Delta kept tossing me out when trying to book at that price. You can find cheaper flights to SJU, however not for the same MQM’s, thereby driving your costs up, so be aware.
This is run for flyers in Southern California. Fly out of San Diego and head through Los Angeles. I agree there is a long layover at LAX on this route, but again, we are close to the end of the year and those of you who need these MQM’s have to make some sacrifices. You get the LAX to JFK Transcontinental flight segment (in both directions.) If you still have some Global Upgrade or Regional Upgrade Certificates you might choose to use them here on this run. You do get a large portion of your day to enjoy San Juan and an overnight. You have a broad range of hotels to choose from near the airport, from really inexpensive (what I call layover) hotels to 5-Star resorts. After you night in SJU you depart the next morning and arrive back in San Diego late the same evening.
There are several dates open in December for this run, although the cheapest date is depart Monday, December 7th, arrive SJU on Tuesday the 8th and depart on Wednesday, the 9th.
