I would love to be a fly on the wall when you go tell your wife +1 you are flying to Cancun without them. But, when you tell them you are only going for 5 hours they may say “have fun” 😉
Anyway, I have never been and it looks like it will cost you $60 RT to transit from the airport to the beach if you want to try to do that at some resort before you turn back home. I am NOT suggesting you do that and sticking at the airport may be the best call.
There are two weekends this seems to work and you can work almost all day Friday and be back home early Sunday to recover before work Monday. Ya sure can not argue with the price and MQMs from a Delta hub!

Rene, I really appreciate all of these mileage run opportunities, but after last week’s experience on a non mileage run flight, I will not be flying anything but first class from now on. I happened to be on an OLD 767 from ATL to LAX with a RU opportunity that did not come through, so I was in coach. Seat 19B. I even brought my own inflatable back support as I had had bad experiences in a Delta coach seat in the past. This however was the worst. First of all, there was a 350 lb. man sitting next to me that pushed my body into the aisle. And he claimed, get this, that the seats were too close together. I wanted to say something so bad, but I did not. Anyway, the lack of back support on this very very old seat, did a number on my back where I have been in bed most of the time since the 27th with no amount of hydrocodone helping. So I cannot trust any plane on Delta in coach anymore, even though I know for a fact that there are new coach seats out there on some planes that are very comfortable and supportive. I wrote to Delta about it, so i will see what happens, but if you have any suggestions on how to overcome the surprises that wait in store for any of us with the myriad of seating arrangements and ages that we have to endure, please tell me and I might take you up on some of your great mileage runs.

@Scott – All you have to do, with the 350lb guy, is before flight go to front of jet and talk to head FA and tell them his is spilling into your seat. They will make him take next flight or move him. You get empty seat. The rest, well, enjoy 1st!
