The above from someone on twitter I follow and this is just not OK anywhere. Not in 1st class or in coach, or in a Skyclub or anywhere else for that matter. Just because some Delta bulkhead seats do not have “that” much space does not give a flyer the right to put their feet on the wall let alone to make a disgusting mess like this.
I am not suggesting we go back to the “olden days” when you HAD to dress up to fly but some reasonable semblance of decorum must be maintained (think Pan-Am experience). But, to me, the seat back pocket on a jet should not be used for:
- Your shoes
- Used snot rags
- Diapers (used that is)
- Gum (used even in paper)
- Puke bag (used – shudder)
- Your socks you had on
Or anything else that not even your spouse (or mom) would want to clean up after you. This is just not hard people. This is sick and wrong. Period. End of story.
The same goes for feet on seats, on arm rests, next to my head, on tables in the Skyclub and a myriad of other locations. While we are at it, men, and women, it is NOT ok to use the lavatory and not wash your hands – EVER! Don’t tell me you are going to use a wet wipe or something when you get back to your seat as you are touching things I may touch before you “wipe up”.
Gosh times are changing and not for the better. Are the airlines responsible for some of this behavior due to monetizing everything and cutting leg room to almost intolerable levels to maximizing profits? Maybe, but only so far.
You tell me. Is this going too far? Would you have spoken up if you were seated next to this passenger? Do you ever put your feet up on a Delta bulkhead wall? – Rene

Probably someone on a free upgrade.
i always take a bulk-head, econo-comfort seat. there have been plenty of times where my neighbor kicks off his/her shoes and uses the wall in front of us as a foot rest. not cool!!! kudos to several FAs who have come around and put a stop to that.
Totally sick of Pigs on airplanes! I don’t want to see your filthy feet, period. Much less all over the walls, other seats, magazine racks, etc. If you can’t conduct yourself with at least a little bit of class, stay home!
I think it is absolutely gross. Maybe the health department should step in because of the airlines serving food.
I tend to just page an FAinstead of staring at them passive aggressively like my wife does
I’ll say this again, This is what happens when you make flying affordable to the great, unwashed masses,
Could not agree more. Makes me crazy what some people do this. Saw a teenager with feet on tray table! Have some decorum folks. To be honest, i would like a dress code of sorts. No PJ’s!
Thanks for the reply Minos! I too was offended by Billy’s reply. I can’t afford to pay for first or business class but am often upgraded free because of my status or use of my miles but I have manners and they don’t cost me anything.
I saw a guy take his shoes and socks off and put the red first class blanket down to put his bare feet on. He had the nerve to turn to me and say “you never know what is on these floors”. GROSS! I had a long flight ahead of me, so I didn’t say something back like “you never know where that blanket has been when you snuggle it up to your face”. I have never used a blanket since.
@Minos, I used to work for an airline as a CSR. Planes are not cleaned during the day. At the airline I worked for, the turn around times were so short it was not possible. The only time the plane was cleaned was at the the end of the day (on an “overnight”). At that time it was thoroughly cleaned – lavatories, seats, floors vacuumed, seat back pocket cleaned and replenished, etc.
I fly DL a lot and noticed that on most trips the incoming plane has less than an hour to de-plane all pax, crew perform a security check (no cleaners allowed) and then start the boarding process. Other than a cursory look while doing the security check the plane is not getting cleaned.
International flights, however, are a different story. The time between departures is much longer (2+ hours or more) so those A/C SHOULD be much cleaner at departure.
One other thing to think about is that these people have been to the “Lav” without shoes or socks on their feet! Even more gross.
You mean to tell me a boorish oaf decided to smear his mud covered shoes against the bulkhead wall? No way. I agree with your article 100% but the fact is, this person (probably a guy and an American) acted like a complete idiot and the rest of us have to put up with them. I’ll tell you what, it is amazing what people will do if they think they can get away with it. It isn’t like the person couldn’t see what they did it was 4 feet in front of their face, and they didn’t even try to remedy the situation. I have a great idea. The person in charge of fixing that “mess” gets to fly to that clowns house and smear their shoes on the tv screen in their living room.
I don’t know what should be done when passengers behave badly. On Monday I posted the following on Facebook:
I just moved my seat in Delta’s LAX Sky Club. The guy next to me was using FaceTime with his speaker on. Everyone in the club could hear the profanity-laced conversation. Every time I heard another profanity I said, “Thanks for sharing”. Then it got ugly when some guy reamed him out and told him the rest of the guests didn’t want to hear any more. Then the lady on the other end of the line said, “What? You’re not allowed to talk on the phone any more?” The guy would neither turn off the speaker, nor hang up. I moved to another seat before a fight broke out. Go figure.
I always put my feet on the bulkhead wall (with either shoes or slippers) and I have no shame about it. Sorry folks
Do you allow your house guests to do the same?
If you sit next to me I’ll tell you I believe it’s rude. The majority of your fellow passengers would agree that it’s rude most would not have the courage to speak up.
It’s the FA role to ask folks to put their feet down.
It’s the FA role to ask folks to put their feet down.
In a society where wearing your pants around your knees is okay if not glamorized, any sense of actual decorum is surprising to see. In an environment of extreme PC-ness and zero etiquette, it’s surprising when someone speaks out. It is up to us to “be the change” we want to see. Dress well (in any class of service). Behave well. And don’t be afraid to be judged for judging, or to apply some peer pressure.
Not sure why people are comparing a public plane with personal homes. Plus it’s the FAs job to clean the plane (domestic airline FAs don’t do much else). It’s a wall lol if someone wants to put their feet on it not sure why it matters, if it’s not hurting me then go for it.
It is NOT a FA’s job to clean airplane cabins. Cleaning crews are charged with that responsibility. With short turn around times, however, significant cleaning is done only once during a 24-hour cycle.
It is inconsiderate to your fellow passengers to leave a mess.
For crying out loud, even if you didn’t learn it at home, we all were taught in kindergarten to clean up after ourselves.
Is it time to buy a supply of hello kitty surgical masks, and Kevlar gloves as standard attire when flying ? I carry sterile wipes now and wipe everything I can touch from and including my seat and I bought a neck pillow
I always carry a long scarf to serve as a blanket
I have had some Vile experiences including
The Parmesan foot cheese incident !!!
