As you read this I am returning from my vacation / mileage run to and from Alaska. I am gleaning a ton of information from this trip and really appreciating just why Alaska has not yet lost their grip on the west but more on that point later. For now we have the great news that
GoGo has been approved for their new fast internet service and are moving forward (and that includes Delta jets)!
For now I want to touch on one of the issues that is all a buzz in the news as of late and that is our love – hate relationship with the GoGo service you will find on almost all Delta jets including many smaller regional jets (just not CRJ200s or E145s).
One of the places this really is needed are flight from the USA that go over Canada to ANC in Alaska. You really only get coverage so far. Now from ANC to Seattle’s SEA airport I was connected just about the entire time.
The other big reason is the GoGo speeds really are just slow. Really slow. To be fair, most times it is usably fast enough. At least to get most normal things done that do not include large photos or any kind of video etc. But having to use “image shrink” every time I post a photo on twitter from the air is a pain and does not look that great when you enlarge them.
We all know GoGo is expensive and I really value my 10 free use coupons from my non-Delta AMEX business platinum card I get each year. We all hate paying for something expensive and not getting our money’s worth and often times GoGo is such an experience, but that may change now with this new faster technology. I pay for blistering fast Comcast speed. I don’t like the price, but there is value to me at least when I get what is promised and more. Time for GoGo to do that as well – happy to pay up when they serve up what I need! – Rene
