The past few days I flew 8 segments with Delta. The APP had lots of issues and was a constant source of frustrations. I could NOT check in half of the time (sometimes due to 4 segments within 24 hours – a known bug), other times even when checked in it would just not pull up my boarding pass. Both TexasYankee and I got the error screen above several times. Irritating to say the very least.
Well today we get to see the NEW and improved 3.1 version of the Fly Delta App. They have added a bunch of features we have been asking for but as usual I do not think the IT folks are the ones flying as they need to tweak where things are and how they work! Let’s take a look at what is new.
The first one, when we look at the menu on the left and chose book, is that we can now book awards on the app. You STILL have to use top RIGHT menu drop down and pick “price in miles” to get the lowest price flights first on the list as Delta still wants to decide for you that spending MORE points is the best match. Thanks Delta, but we want to spend less Delta points not more by default.
You can do most of the things you want. Coach vs First quickly on the same screen. Toggle between using miles and paying cash. Nice upgrade.
The next HUGE improvement, I mean HUGE is the “Feed” choice on the menu to the side. When you click on that you get this screen:
One of the MOST frustrating things about the Delta text and App alerts for your coming gate info etc. is that the important info is often cut off or is gone when you go to look at it. So, you have to do 10 clicks to get the info you wanted. Having it here, and even old ones, in a “Notifications” tab is just SWEET and gives you quick access. Also the next VERY useful tab “NEWS”
Again, just HUGE. So good to be able to see if a winter or other waiver has been issued. HUGE. Thank you Delta.
Now here is what drives me completely bonkers. They have this new – AMAZING – new Feed option. Where would be the best place to put it? Maybe on the HOME screen with other important info? No. We still have a worthless “Profile” tab that after you update once you never ever touch again (am I right or am I right). How about we move the “Feed” there where we can get to all these new features quickly. Maybe they will fix it in 3.1.1
So there you are. I am impressed with what they have added. I wish the APP was MUCH quicker. I wish there was a button on EVERY SCREEN to open your current boarding pass and that it was saved off-line in the app so even with no signal you could still board a jet and not hold the line up if you are searching for the electronic boarding pass. I have my other tiny wishes as well but these are steps in the right direction.
What do you think about the updates? – René

I may be wrong but when attempting to book new flights on the app I did not see a way to check which seats are available. Did I miss something? With the problems over the weekend I would just migrate to the full html site after being forced to the mobile site.
i agree one of the improvements very much needed is to save a boarding pass to be able to access while off line. Come on Delta.
I sooooo agree with having the ‘open boarding pass’ on every screen!
Rene, Was this update released for IPhone yet? I don’t see the update in the app.
@Deltaflyer – no, iPhones must wait. guess you need to upgrade to Android 😉
Not updating until after these flights. Does it still have the bug…on my device when I complete check-in and press done it exits the app completely…smh what…I don’t even have words for that.
The boarding pass offline access is no problem – with the iPhone passbook feature supported by the app. I guess that doesn’t apply to Android, but if you had an iPhone you’ve been able to do that for a while now.
A screenshot/gallery accomplishes the same thing but using a different app to supplement the FlyDelta deficiencies is the point. Too many silly deficiencies in the app.
I agree that these changes are very nice. As for the boarding pass acess offline, I agree. I’ve been burned before without web access (and held up the line), so now I take a screen shot of my boarding pass and use that. It works great and I no longr have to worry about wonky or no wifi in airports outside the US.
as i have saide before as soon as the app starts working better they ??UPGRADE It-i guess thast is what u call it but it messes up even more …not good
