Please don’t “freak out” on January 1st when Delta…

There will be plenty of things to freak out about next year under Skymiles2015, but there are many things you need NOT get all flustered over (but so many folks do). Let’s look at the common stuff that tends to come up that you do not need to worry about.

Your MQMs reset to zero (when will rollover MQMs happen)? – Ever since rollover MQMs started they have hit our accounts inside the first two weeks of January and I expect this year will be the same. Rollover is nothing new to Delta so just be patient as it will happen and my guess is even faster than last year when it took to the 14th (the year before it was on 3rd). Even if, for some strange reason, it takes longer than expected, it will happen. Breathe easy.

Your Delta AMEX Platinum or Reserve cards don’t close until January (date). – This is another one that makes folks just go crazy. I get e-mail after e-mail that says my AMEX statement does not close until say January 20th and I ended up a few thousand MQMs short for 2014. Don’t worry, as I have been blogging about all month it is the charge post date that matters. The MQMs will count backward on 2014 as long as you met the spend during 2014. Now if you were thinking and trying to make them count in 2015, then yes, time to freak out as they are going backwards! 😉

You have not redeemed your medallion Choice Benefits. – CB’s are not really calendar year dependent, but medallion year dependent. So, you have until 1MARCH15 this round to pick them. Do start to think about what you are going to select, but you don’t have to rush out and do it today.

You did not re-qualify for some medallion status and… – You can still enjoy your old perks until 1MARCH15 as you do not drop down until that date and yes you DO drop down on that date immediately. What you don’t have to freak out about is losing some perks you selected while you were whatever medallion level. Take Comfort+ seats. If it was free to pick them when you did, you will not have to pay or get auto moved just because you are no longer that medallion level. Now, what CAN and DOES happen is equipment changes and you get moved out of Comfort+ to another seat. In this case, you are stuck and you can freak out a little.

You have read online that mileage runs are over due to Skymiles2015. – I love this one. Just about every flyer I run into on my flights thinks MQMs are going to get whacked under Skymiles2015. We all know they are just the same as 2014 so if you need some MQMs, I am happy to help you find them at the cheapest price possible.

You are worried about meeting your MQD exempt spend for 2015. – It kills me that anyone has to freak out about MQD exempt spending. It is SO simple to get done. I will be testing all the ways again this year but have 100% confidence it will be as simple to get done this year as it was last year. I plan to have mine all done by 1MARCH15 at the latest if not sooner.

Skyclub membership for Diamonds – You can breathe easy for two more months. Most of us have until 1MARCH15 and then our +1’s and families must stand sad faced outside the club as we go in as clearly spending $29 for them to come in and “enjoy” $kyGrub is just silly (#TravelTip – it is not worth it). There are WAY better choices after 1MARCH15.

So there you go. These are the most common things Delta flyers get stressed out over once the 1st of the year rolls around. Have I missed any you are worried about?
