crj200 falling apart at takeoff from SBN to DTW Delta Points blog

I am upset about a lot of the things Delta is doing in the coming months like the end of stopovers for award tickets, the end of RTW award tickets, oh Skymiles2015 but one of my biggest gripes that never ends is ONLY being able to fly CRJ200s out of SBN or South Bend, Indiana. I was told they were SO over sold the other day (and all day out of SBN) that they were paying out $1,300 bump vouchers to get folks off the jets (and yet there are still no larger jets out of SBN).

Well on my flight I just got off to DTW, at takeoff, part of the interior fell apart and hit a priest in the head. Ouch! Passengers reacted and held the part up until we could get to a few thousand feet. We did happen to have a bunch of extra crew on board and an off duty captain jumped up and went to help out. I have a video but cannot upload it because the wifi in the Skyclub is SO slow I am using my phone to get on the web and post (see that $29 upcharge for +1 is paying off for members).

band-air CRJ200 repait plus a paperclip delta points blog

The quick repair was two Band-Aids and a paper clip from the priest. All is well again and I think that is a FINE fix for a CRJ200. I mean it does not take much to get these old birds air worthy again. 🙁

no cone on air vent delta crj200 delta points blog

In my seat all I had to deal with was a razor sharp air vent since the rubber cone had fallen off. Oh Delta, thanks so much for all the SBN love you show.

BTW tomorrow I am starting something fun (well maybe fun). I will be on a Delta Mileage Run with the legendary TexasYankee from FlyerTalk and will be doing “live” blogging. What my plan is to have a post up and then update it all day long with photos and bits as we will be trying two transcon flights and testing some new updates (more info soon). Stay tuned and check the blog often tomorrow for updates! – René

Hmmmm, I wonder how many points they gave the priest? As for the live blog tomorrow I guess I should wear fancy clothes … and a mask? 🙂

    Rene,

When you state “Stay tuned and check the blog often tomorrow for updates!” is that DeltaPoints blog or DeltaMileageRun blog, as you reference it in your post?

PIA would also benefit from more than CRJ200 service!

The day that the last Delta CRJ-200 is hauled away will be a great day indeed.

I despise them (I’m 6’3″), and they are the main reason that I won’t fly US Airways, who seem to use them even more than Delta.

I suppose that there are markets where they make sense, but Delta flies them CVG-MSP, and CVG-DTW. In the case of CVG-MSP, that’s a 2hr+ flight time. I can imagine the agony of those unfortunate enough to be on one of these jets that long.

In the event of a water landing (crash, if it in the opea sea–just a note the FAA fight training manual says land parallel to the swells. I always wondered if they tested it because after years of teaching spin training for pilot certification, the standard method is to apply rudder and aileron in the opposite direction of the spin , power to idle . They changed this year ago when it apparently didn’t work. Some times. The new cure was to do “the exact opposite.”
This is in the context iof the frayed seat belts on the Philly run

I bought this up int hec ontext of things falling apart. MY last two seta belts ob US were so frayed I doubt they would have survived i

I know they fly them from Norfolk, Virginia, to Minneapolis. That has to be 2 1/2 hours.

I recommend flying on American Airlines (AA) if you do not want to fly on a CRJ-200. I heard the virus has forced American Airlines to retire most of their CRJ-200 fleet. Despite the fact that I have NEVER flown in or out of SBN, I often see SBN-DFW flights on flightradar24. When I see SBN-DFW on flightradar24, it is ALWAYS a
CRJ-700 (CR7) when I happen to track the flight, and I never see a single CRJ-200 on that flight.
I have fortunately never flown on a CRJ-200.
I also see a lot of CRJ-200 planes flying 3-4 hour flights in Russia, all on Flightradar24.

That is a good reason to nickname the CRJ-200 satan’s chariot, if it hits anybody, whether it’s a priest, another religious person, or even a nonreligious person. I will think of some new nicknames for the CRJ-200.
