I have a quiz question for you. Tell me, what is one of the cheapest ways to get from a Delta HUB city to a starting point for a DeltaMileageRun (or a vacation for that matter)? Unless you instantly thought “Avios Points” you guessed wrong my friend! I mean take a look at the current great offer from Chase:
Now why do I say this is such a great card for these kinds of direct flights from Delta hubs? Avios is a distance based program and you can spend all the points flying on American Airlines, their partner. You can fly coach the cheapest but, for the most part, 2x coach points for business should you want to go that way. You can check cities with this handy little points calculator on the BA web site btw. Just take a look at how many trips the current 50,000 points bonus offer after spending $2000 within the first 3 months of account opening could get you starting with trips from Atlanta!
We have seen a BUNCH of amazing DFW based mileage runs as a start point. You could make 3 round trips positioning trips (and home) to DFW from our Delta hub in ATL and still have points left over!
Check out SLC to DFW! You are talking the same deal as your Atlanta based flyers that is 3 trips with points to spare. Well what about our cold friends to the north in Minneapolis then?
We all know there have been some VERY nice runs out of MIA (like I have been covering as of late) and you could make two of these trips from MSP down to MIA and still have points to spare from just from the bonus points from this one card!
Oh then there are DTW or Detroit folks. I know you can drive to Chicago if you want to and there have been some sweet deals out of Chicago but you can fly there in no time and make 5 of these round trip flights and still have Avios points left over!
All of the above to me show REAL VALUE when you are a Delta HUB captive and want another choice. Yep, you need to think Avios Points! Plus, if it has been longer that 24 months since you got these bonus points last – YOU CAN GET THEM AGAIN with the British Airways Visa Signature® Card ! (yes it will be my turn soon again)!
So this is SWAG Saturday. The rules are HERE each week so take a look and by commenting you are agreeing you have reviewed them.
What I need from you is simple – just tell me: If you knew just how valuable Avios points can be for us Delta HUB captives? Also, did you know you can get the new card bonus AGAIN if it has been more than 24 months since you got it last. At least answer those two questions for a shot at the $100 Delta e-Gift card via Random.org this week! – René

I did know that Avios are super useful for short (but otherwise expensive) trips within the U.S.
I did NOT know you could get them again after 24 months…
wow avioa are great to reposition to dfw or ord and I am excited that I can now sign up for the ard again! SCORE!
1. i knew Avios can be valuable, especially for short haul (not just for Delta HUB captives).
2. Yes, I do know that!
Yes, Avios is particular valuable for short-haul flights as it is a distance based program. It is great to know that one can get a new card every 24 months.
Did not know how valuable Avios were for Delta hub captives. Did know about 24 month policy for getting BA card again.
Did definitely know the value of Avios for short haul flights. Thought you could get a new card every 28 months though. Guess I was wrong there
I know there’s value in avios points but it’s these very specific, limited situations! It’s not a great currency to have in general compared even to DL… question 2: yes, I did know that!
No to both questions. Sounds like good deals, though!
Yes x 2
No and No but that appears to be a great card to get..
Yes, I knew both of these things and have used Avios for positioning flights a few times over the past few years.
I was aware of the great value for short hauls. I knew that there is a 24 hour wait, but I took advantage of the 100k offer ~2 years ago (50k first year and 50k second year)….I want to know if the clock resets after the initial 50k bonus or after the 2nd 50 bonus posted 1 year after approval?
Yes & No
Last redemption I had was for 7.5CPM for domestic economy…great value that is really tough to find with other points.
Believe you can use these same redemption in other regions like Asia as well — making for great cheap short hop options during a long trip while avoiding discount carriers or much higher inter-region rewards with US airline programs.
Yes and Yes. It’s not as if you would use them for BA flights with the fuel surcharges!
I did not know that Avios could be so valuable to Delta hub travelers. Nor did I know you could reapply for the card so soon.
Didn’t know about the value of Avios, or that you could repeat with that card after two years. I am in NY so definately not a hub captive, but I will definately consider since I am branching out from what was once my only card- Delta Skymiles Amex Platinum and now Reserve. I’ve gotten a Barclays’s arrival and a Ink.
Yes, I knew about the value of Avois and the Chase 24 month rule.
have not used domestically yet. Great ideas!
I did know that Avios points can be for us Delta HUB captives.
I did not know you could get the card again after 24 months.
Yes, to both. Love using 9K RT to ORD! We still have limited options on MSP, but USAIR merger is helping.
No, and no. That’s why I read your blog.
I had read your previous posts concerning Avios, but definitely no to the card bonus!
Didn’t know
Didn’t know
This is a program I have not looked at much or learned about until now. Thanks!
i knew avios was a good deal and I think the waiting period is similar to what other cards offer 🙂
Yes, I knew that for both questions. I spend too much time reading up on points!
I did not know!
#1. Yes, i knew Avios can be very valuable, especially for short haul (not just for Delta HUB captives).
#2. Yes, I do know about the Chase 24-month rule for BA card.
no and no. Know very łittle about Avios. Have an account but no miles in it.
I knew the value of Avios, but I didn’t know you could get the bonus twice.
Woo hoo!
No and no.
i’m not a total rookie, but i’m still figuring out avios logisticos! so no. i didn’t know….but now i do!
and now i know i can get an avios card….cancel….wait a couple yrs…and be good to go again!
knowledge is power. thanks for the potency!
Did not know all
Yes to both questions. Please continue to occasionally remind me since there are so many things to remember when it comes to miles and points:)
Didn’t know anything about this visa card. Knew there was some value in Avios but didn’t realize the potential here in US. I think I’ve put a mental boycott on anything related to AA.
Yes, I knew Avios were a great deal for short hops, but I didn’t know I could get the BA card bonus again after 24 months.
Wow, that is great value! I need to consider that Avios card!
No & No, I did not know either. Do other cards allow you to get the bonus again in 24 months?
Knew about Avios short distance flights but not about getting a BA Avios signup bonus again after 2 years!
I did not know–so thanks!!
1) Yes, I did know that! I’m looking forward to using Avios to fly between SEA and PDX. One-way fares are normally around $100, and I think 4,500 Avios is a good redemption for something I would pay anyways, even though flying in a QX Q400 is not necessarily aspirational. 🙂 Free beer and wine, though!
2) I did not know that! I might have to get it!
#1: Aware but have never used Avios personally.
#2: Did not know; thanks!
1. Yes I knew that.
2. Yes I knew that too
Thanks for all you do for us Rene
No and no…
Apparently for folks like me for Kansas City, it’s the way to go! I had no idea! In addition, I was always under the impression only one bonus per card. This is great information. Thanks!
Was not very familiar with either; thanks for the info….
did not know either. Thanks to bloggers like you I am really starting to learn what I did wrong in the past.
No and No — But that’s why I read the Blog to keep learning new things!
1. Yes I knew avios was great for short distance flights
2. Yes I knew after 24 months you could get the sign up bonus.
Never hurts to post though for the people who didn’t know!
I was clueless about both of these! Great tidbit for positioning or just going on a trip to see friends/family.
I knew the value of avios (I really love this currency!)
I also knew about the bonus – and it’s in my plans to apply for the card.
Yes…reading blogs like yours has taught me so much about the FF community. Because of the great posts by yourself and others I have learned how to use (and have actually used) BA Avios for positioning on MRs and yes I have recently learned about the fact Chase will allow you to get the bonus again on one of their CCs if it has been at least 24 months since you last earned that same bonus.
Avios are great for short domestic trips! As for Chase, it’s important to remember that you can get the bonus 24 months after the last time you got the bonus, not 24 months since you were approved for the card.
I did know they were valuable for sjort trips, but I didn’t know you could requalify after two years!
No and no. Very helpful information.
Yes, I knew about both.
From Detroit – take the Megabus to Chicago (you can sometimes get a seat for $1), or transfer UR points to Amtrak and take the train to Chicago.
I use these points all the time! They’re my favorite! Glad to to now know I can get another lump sum of them!
Yes on both counts. I’ve used Avios for many tickets for my family to/from an AA (and now US) hub airports, and saved a ton. And also I knew about the bonus and being able to get it after 24mo.
I thought everyone understood the value of Avios for short haul trips.
Yes and Yes but i never have as much succuess in finding space than everyone else it seems :/
Yes, I was aware that Avios provided excellent value for domestic short haul flights. I was also aware that Chase cards are churnable after a two year hiatus.
I had no idea how valuable Avios points can be. and I didn’t realize I can get the new card bonus AGAIN if it has been more than 24 months. Thanks for the info!
I just started learning about miles, so all of this information is new to me. I have the most points with Delta so going to go stalk your blog for a bit 🙂
knew both!
I didn’t know either of those things. Thanks for the head’s up!
Yes, I’ve been using Avios for short flights. Yes, I figured you could get the card and the bonus again after a couple years time.
Yes, I’ve been using Avios for several years now. I figured you could probably get the bonus again after a couple of years.
No and No. Thanks to you I do now!
I did not know that Avios could be so useful for Hub captives, but that’s probably because I’m not a Hub captive. Actually my local airport has more AA connections than DL, so this app is a no brainer for me. I also did not know how churnable the card is. Definitely going to be taking advantage of the current offer.
Unfortunately, the answer is No to both.
No I didn’t know about Avios. And didn’t know the 2 year requirement. Thanks.
No to both
I did not know how valuable Avios is for Delta hubbers. I did know about 24 month policy for getting a card again.
I did not know about Avois points for hubs, or the card again after 24 months. So, two “no’s” for me.
I have to opposite problem – lots of Delta miles, and not near a Delta hub, so if I want to use my miles, I have to connect through one of their hubs. Avios would definitely be useful for me, though. And no, I didn’t know you could get another sign-up bonus on that card.
No to both questions.
No to both questions.
No and No. Thanks!
I did know about Avios for short domestic flights, but I did not know that the card could be gotten more than once! You’re an education, as ever! THANKS!!
Yes, I love using my Avios for domestic short hauls. Availability is decent too.
No, I didn’t know about the 24 month rule but good to know!
A “yes” to both questions.
i didnt know about this and not sure if can be used from vps to alt . i live in boonies and getting to atlanta when not going somewhere else on delta unless driving 7hrs just dose not seem doable
Love avios! Did NOT Know I could get the card again, though!
I knew that Avios can be great for positioning to a Delta hub (and many other short hauls), but I did not know that you could get the sign-up bonus after 2 years.
Yes great for short runs yes. Heck great for longish ones too as typing this from Europe, thanks to Avios.
Hope that this two year criteria will be a long time thing.
I did not know just how valuable Avios points can be for us Delta HUB captives. Also, I did you not know I can get the new card bonus AGAIN if it has been more than 24 months since I got it last.
I knew Avios were the way to go for short flights, but never thought about them for escaping a hub. I didn’t know that you could repeat the bonus every 24 months.
I do know how valuable Avios points can be – I used them not too long ago for a trip to Dallas for 4500 points each way (awesome!). I wasn’t sure how long you had to wait to reapply – so I will be doing that again soon : )
1. I did not know of the value of this card
2. And I also didn’t know the card could be applied for more than once.
Rene, it was a double education for me. I was ignorant to both and consider myself well versed on this type of information. So thanks
Yes to both questions.
1. Yes. 2. Yes.
1. I just booked my first short-haul BA flight to NY for Holiday sightseeing for 15,000 Avios (transferred from Amex). Fantastic deal, lots of flights available and many of them direct flights. And then proceeded to sign up for the BA credit card offer.
2. Yes, every 24 months.
As usual, no and no. That’s why I read your blog, Rene!
AVIOS !! All the way
But that travel together pass is Golden !! Hard to find availability even 11 months out tjough
I knew neither answer: thank you.
thanks for the useful info, I’ll be using it next time I need to burn some avions miles.
I didn’t realize this, and am a prisoner living in MSP. Thanks for the tip; I’ll apply as soon as my home refinance is complete!
No and No — but “yes” and “yes” to his helpful post and to all you do for Delta flyers!
No to both — but will consider getting the card!
Yes, to both questions!
I knew about the avios value and yes I knew about the 24 month rule which allows me to apply for a new card in 2 weeks!
Yes for avios, no for the credit card.
I didn’t know about the Avios points and I have to fly into DFW at least twice a year.
But I did know #2.
I did not realize the value of Avios miles, and I did not know you could get the bonus again. That’s why I love your blog…I learn lots of great information.
No – I didn’t have a good appreciation for Avios miles
Yes – I did know that you could get the bonus again, but forgot it was after 24 months
Amazing – I have avios – and they Work!
cheapest way to OGG from SFO using points
I did know that Avios are good for short hops. However, since Avios are for OneWorld and Delta is SkyTeam, there’s a risk if your OneWorld flight gets delayed and you miss your Delta flight. Probably not a concern if you have high status with Delta and can re-book for free.
I didn’t know you could get the card bonus again after 24 months. Good to know.
NO x 2
I had no idea!
I had no idea!
This is exactly why I love reading your blog.
1. Did not know about avios
2. I knew
Question. Are we going to get a real chip and pin, and not just the chip and sign amex?
I did not know the value to Delta flyers (and I’m an ATL captive).
I did not know you could get the bonus again after 24 months.
Yes and Yes. Avios are some of the best points/miles out there
No to both questions — learned something new. May have to jump on this one!
I have used Avios to get to gateway’s many times, it’s such an awesome way to get somewhere cheap. Churning Chase cards is becoming addicting!
1. I knew they were valuable for short haul flights, but didn’t really grasp their usefulness until I saw your examples. Being a SLC captive, I thought I was doomed to miss all the great MR deals out there. But, you have “shown me the light”!
2. No, I didn’t realize you could get the bonus every 24 months. I will definitely be applying for this card thru your link on my next round of cards.
Yes and yes. Two more weeks until I can apply again.
I did know about avios and the distance based awards in the US and with international partners such as LAN.
I didn’t know that I could get the card again after not having it for 24 months. I like the card though so I can’t see going without it for 12 months.
No I did not realize how valuable Avios could be for DL fliers esp the Hub people. And I did not realize you could get the bonus points every two years.
I didn’t know about being able to use those points nor the 24 month re-up. Thanks Rene for the info!
No and no, but thank you for the insight!
No and no. I didn’t know either of those, but that’s why I love reading your blog! I learn all sort of cool tips.
Yes, I did indeed know that Avios were great for short haul flights, but I didn’t know you could get the sign up bonus again after 24 months!
no & no. i may sign up this time around!
As a MSP captive, I was aware that Avivos points were a great short flight redemption, but I was not aware of this card offer, nor that you can get the offer again in 24 months. Thanks, Rene!
I was not aware of how valuable the points can be or that I was eligible if more than 24 months.
No and no. New information for me.
I did not know about that with Avios. Now I do!
As for the card bonus after 24 months I think I have read it somewhere on flyertalk. 🙂
I didn’t know how valuable the Avios could be, but now I do! And yes, I did know you can get the bonus again after 24 months, but it’s always a great reminder! Thanks!
1. Being caught in a DL hub, super interesting post! I never viewed it that way.
2. I did not know!….. I’m really tempted to go for this card! (as I stare at my gold amex.. )
No, I wasn’t aware of either of those things. I will have to look into that card further!
Yes and Yes, because of your blog………………Cheers !
Although I read Delta Points all the time, I have to admit I did not know Avios was such a valuable option, and I didn’t know about getting the bonus a second time (mostly because I have never signed up for this offer).
I did not know, but I do now!
yes i knew just how valuable Avios points are for short flights. no i didn’t know that about the new card bonus AGAIN after 24 months.
No to both questions. Thank you very much for the information. As a DTW captive hub resident, I will definitely put this information to good use!
Didn’t know but will investigate
No to both questions.
I knew the value of using Avios so I got the card and the 50k. I didn’t know about the 24 months part. Thanks for that insight.
No to both but thank you for the information. Very informative.
#1. Yes, i knew Avios are awesome, especially for short haul.
#2. Yes, I do know about the Chase 24-month rule for BA card, just recently got it for the second time.
I didn’t know anything about Avios points, or even the BA Visa card! Everything you said was news to me, so thank you! Being in SLC, I can see how useful this could be…
No and no. I have to get me some Acios points and a new credit card!
no and yes. I think I will have to study up on how to make better use of my Avios points!
I knew how valuable Avios points were, but didn’t know how long to wait before applying again for the card.
Never really thought about using avios in this way. No I didn’t know. Also didn’t know when I could repeat the bonus
Yes, although I prefer to use avios to fly Aer Lingus to Dublin! 😉 and yes, I knew you could get it again. I have to wait another year!
No and no.
The Avios have been handy to use in Eu between cities vs here…. did not know u could get the bonus points again NICE
I did know that Avios were useful for shorter trips.
I did know that you could get the card bonus again if it has been more than 24 months since you last received the points.
It’d be “no” to both questions, now I think I need to put that card on the list of ones to look at for the next round…
No and no
I knew all that. That’s why I’m about to apply for the card!
I’m not gonna lie. I never even thought about this card because of the huge fuel surcharges imposed on BA flight. Makes more sense for AA flights. Thanks for this! But to answer your questions, no and no.
I didn’t know what Avios points were, so no to both questions!
no to both! but now….yes to both!
I never heard of Avios cards and no, I did not know they could be “reactivated” for more points after 24 months.
Did not know both I am applying for the card now!!!!
I did not know both I am going to get the card!
1 Yes
2. Yes
But have not yet been Balt to take advantage of this card. Getting closer, but trying to do required minimum spend on two other cards now. So next time !
1. I did know that Avios can be valuable, especially for short distance trips (not just for Delta HUB captives).
2. Thank you, I know that now, because of you Rene!
I have never tried British Airways. I would think Flexperks or Arrival would be more flexible for positioning.
I did not know just how valuable the Avios card was and no, I did not know that you get “re-bonused” after 24 months. That’s why I read your posts, to learn these things!
Yes, I know they’re very valuable especially for repositioning. No, I didn’t know you could get it again. Thanks for the great information!
Didn’t know either. Currently still geeking out over the NBO fares!!
Sadly, no to both questions. Still a new player to this ball game. But I’m getting there!
I once read that Avios is good for short trips within the US, but I never know about the 24-months bonus point. Thanks for the info!
I did not know that – thanks for the info Rene!
I didn’t know about either (avios or the time frame). I’m going to have to expand my cards.
Avios are also great for those of us not close to a major airport. I use mine to get from FSD to ORD for 4,500 points as everything is far cheaper starting in ORD than FSD.
Is that 24 months since prior approval or since I canceled the card? If since I got it then that is fantastic news as this is month 25 🙂
I have never signed up for Avios and never used for trips within the U.S.
I did NOT know you could get them again after 24 months
no (never really thought about it) and yes
No, never thought well of Avios points so I knew neither, so No and No.
No and no. Thanks for the info!
Wow…I didn’t know about either of these, so my answer to both questions is no! Mental note made, now writing down so I don’t forget!
I did not know about either, but might be worth me to apply for the card.
No And No
I knew how valuable Avios can be for short US trips, but I didn’t know you could get the bonus points again after 24 months.
Love your blog!
I knew how valuable they could be but I have never used them yet. Also I did not know that the window was 24 months to get the sign up bonus again
Yessir to both! Great info though!
No to both questions. Thanks for your blog post; now I know! 🙂
1. Knew how useful Avios can be.
2. Did not know about recycling bonus.
I neither knew their use, or did I know about getting the bonus again. Frankly I’d never really given much thought to avios. I guess I should reconsider
no to both questions. But thanks for the great advice
No, and no. 🙂
I had no idea about either. I normally fly out of ATL for mileage runs, since CHA to ATL is usually super-expensive!
Wow! I had never heard of Avios, I have learned a lt on this site in a very short time. I also never knew about reapplying for credit cards. ContinuAlly amazed!
Yes and Yes
Didn’t know about Avios, about the credit reapplication and didn’t know about you! And now I’m three times smarter. Thanks for this blog. Will be checking you out often.
Yes, avios are my go to for short domestic non-stop flights!
Kinda, but is it 24 months after you received the bonus or 24 months after applying for the card?
1. I am not a hub captive, but have made great use of Avios for short haul flights. They are particularly useful in Australia on Qantas.
2. I did not know you could get the BA card after 24 months, but I suspected it was possible as it worked for a separate Chase card.
I love ATL-MIA or ORD with Avios. And I’m right at 24 months, time for a churn!
Yes, I knew they were valuable for hub travelers — and also great redemption opportunities for travelers on the East Coast. No, I didn’t know you get the signup bonus every two years.
I didn’t know how valuable Avios points can be for me as living in a Delta Hub. I also didn’t know I could get the new card bonus again if it has been more than 24 months since i got it last.
Yes I was aware that Avios was good for short hauls. However I was not aware that you could apply to receive the bonus on the British Airways card again after 24 months.
I didn’t know the value of Avios or the bonus @ 24 mo. Another reason the read the blog. I stick to strictly DL miles for use – wondering how Acios could add to my portfolio?!
