After zipping through customs we entered the USA. Well sorta, we were still in Canada, but right after you exit security (staying on the same floor i.e. don’t go down the escalators) you turn right and take the elevators up to the Air Canada Maple leaf lounge.
I was not expecting any issues entering the lounge since we were, after all, coming off of a 1st class Lufthansa Star Alliance flight connecting to business class on United.
We were greeted, not very warmly but it was early, and we headed for the breakfast area.
Breakfast was continental at best and Skyclub like shall we say, so nothing really all that impressive.
It was nice to have croissants vs just toast only.
Let’s walk around the rest of the lounge. There was ample seating but it was very early.
One nice thing was the TV was in its own room. A nice touch
As well as the kids room. Again, a very nice touch.
Showers are available if you need them.
There was a second eating area with even lighter fair on the way to the office area.
The work area is quite large compared to most clubs I have been in.
And there is a Regus meeting room as well.
Over all it is on par with a Skyclub. I did not run a WiFi speed test but I did call my mom on Skype and had no issues so that is saying something (I have dropped calls in the AMS Crown room before).
However, if you happen to have a non-Delta AMEX Platinum card and get the Priority Pass card that comes along with it you can use the much smaller lounge downstairs after security.
It was just next door to our gate. Had I known about it I would have gone straight here.
The Plaza Premium Lounge has most of the same amenities as the Air Canada lounge but on a much smaller scale. But, importantly, the breakfast choices were MUCH better including several hot choices. I did not test the WiFi as I just walked in to check the place out before boarding our United flight back to the USA. More on that coming up next! – René

Just flew home from LHR for my first time. It also was my first flight to the US as a Gold Medallion. I arrived at the airport in desperate need of breakfast and WiFi. I was most pleasantly surprised to find that my status qualified me for both. My experience in the SkyTeam lounge was on par with your Maple Leaf experience except that the food was a full English breakfast. The quality was decent and the apple pancakes were divine. I made a successful Skype video call without glitches. The hour I spent there set the stage for a punctual departure and arrival stateside so well that I’ve submitted a positive comment to Delta. I also have been very impressed by the generosity of bottled water and other beverages on the newly enhanced international coach service. During an 8-hour flight, they distributed 500ML bottles to everyone in coach 3 times!
@Corbett – nice thanks for sharing the detailed comment.
