I came home around lunch today and, as I often do, checked my current list of 12 upcoming flights on my Delta.com at https://www.delta.com/mytrips (must be logged in to see your list).
What I found was some flights had just tiny changes. Others had some massive changes; one flight had my departure, in a connecting city, leaving 2 hours before I got there. Medallion rep said, “well that will not work”. I agreed.
Now before you go calling or tweeting to Delta, please look over THIS post about the mighty schedule change. It really is worth its weight in GOLD. I LOVE me some Delta schedule changes. What you want to do, or at least what I do, is do a one way search on the day I want to change from point A to point B. That way, I KNOW I have all legal and approved routes that any Delta rep will be able to pull up.
I also check how many MQMs I would earn before and see if I can do any of the following:
1) Find better routes for MORE MQMs
2) Find better routes that offer a better product ie full flats
3) Find routes that have more Delta metal than partners
4) Find routes that have longer or shorter layovers
5) Add legs where I maybe only had 2 now I can have 3 or the other way round
BTW our friends at CWSI.net have great tool to check how many miles you get from whatever route! I could go on and on but the key thing is to check first before calling if you do qualify. If you don’t, it may be worth a call anyway as if there are enough changes many reps will acquiesce to reasonable requests.
Have fun! – René

Great head’s up. My layover at LAX was shortened to 1 hour 30 minutes (JFK-LAX-BNE), domestic flight on Delta and Australia flight on VA. Do you think this is enough time? Delta thinks so but wondering if I should push for an earlier domestic segment. I think they are in different terminals at LAX.
Thanks for the heads up. I had a misconnection on my $518 RT fare CLT-LIH that I had just bought 2 days ago. Delta let me switch it to HNL, which is better for my anyway, at no charge as no connection then worked. QUESTION: Have you ever had luck switching a Regional Upgrade once it is pulled from your account and assigned to a future flight? I have one on a short haul flight in November because I did not think I was going to fly anymore. Then I found this flight to Hawaii for $500 and upgrades are available. But switching it from one flight to another seems impossible.
@Christopher – that will be hard reg RU certs. They are officially used once you spend them and done. Not to say you can not ask. Also, as I did, you can change flights with them but not what you want. Try and advise.
So far, no luck. I have tried 3 times to move my RU’s to another flight and have been politely told “no” 3 times. Each time the agent put me on hold and went to the “ticket desk” who told them no. I am trying to use a 35 minute schedule change as the justification and they say they won’t do it for less than 1 hour of sched change. I think it’s a manual process that this may be an IT issue more than anything. I may try a few more times.
