Since the weather was just a little bit horrendous I decided to drive up the night before my mileage run I am currently on. But that means an overnight and the point of a mileage run is make it as cost effective as possible. How does adding a hotel night help this?
Since I have earned my SPG Platinum status I am trying to stay at and enjoy as many SPG properties this year that I can. However, my choices at MKE on points are not the greatest or the other choices just too many points. I am brand loyal this year but also not point foolish!
I have had good stays at Candlewood Suites but the last one I was in felt like a throwback to the 80’s. Now I love the 80’s as much as the next guy (from that generation) but maybe not so much in a hotel. This Candlewood in Kenosha WI was updated and the staff was tops and helpful. While 30 minutes south of the MKE airport it was on the way for me.
Not just a clean, nice spacious room but an upgrade as an IHG Platinum and a spin of the points wheel netted me 1,000 points back. The room was just 10,000 and since I have the 80k Chase IHG card (not my link and at the bottom of the list of cards) I get 10% back so another 1,000 points in a few weeks. So all in, just 8,000 points for the night. That is value and well worth it to not have stress on the drive up the morning of my run. – René

Hi Rene!
I apologize if this isn’t the right place to post this question: I have had my Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card for just under a year. Is there a way to downgrade to the Platinum card just to spend $1K and collect the bonus, then upgrade to the Reserve Card again to collect a new signing bonus of EQMs?
