First I need to get some corrections from the week out of the way. Number one is from the bombshell announcement about the massive devaluation of Skymiles starting this 01JUNE2014. In the original post I had confirmation that if you started to fly before 01JUNE the round trip ticket would only be 100,000 Skymiles at low level not the new higher 125,000 for Business class. As it turns out now, a ticket started on or before 31MAY will cost 112,500 or half the old rate and half the new rate. I apologize for the bad information.
Next is a correction about my post with the SWUs getting hit with a “stealth” devaluation from KLM. We all know that Delta phone reps do not always have the right information to give us, but I confirmed the information from reps as well as those commenting on the FlyerTalk post. As it turns out, the reps did not have the right information. I received an e-Mail with this updated info today:
“For travel on KLM this certificate may be used to upgrade only on published fares in Y, B, M or U class, Y or B fares upgrade into Z class and M or U fares upgrade to O class.” – Delta Air Lines
So the issue that it was ONLY “Y” class eligible has been corrected and hopefully all the reps will get the memo and allow us to use SWUs again on KLM in the correct fare classes.
Lastly, some great news! A blog I follow and enjoy has just launched on BoardingArea today. I hope you take some time and check out my now fellow BoardingArea blogger Michael W. Travels! – René
