As you can see by the video clip above, Delta has totally broken my Delta phone app. This has been a shining star from our airline. It was fast; it was sleek; it worked (the most important part btw).
Again if you take the time to look at the total video you will see it takes over 1½ minutes just to start the app! Then, it is mostly fine until you try to do things like say, look up gate info for a flight then get ready to wait forever again for info to update. BTW, the video above is real time. The only cut I have made is about 2-3 seconds that shows my Skymiles info etc.
Now all of this could be due to the fact that I have over 20 itineraries currently that is slowing it down. So, I would love to know, other Android users (I am running Delta 2.0.3), have you also seen a huge degradation of the performance of the Delta app especially those with a bunch of trips booked? What about iPhone users? Please shout out and let me know – René

buy an iPhone!
@Filippo – HA! So, are you saying, you have 20+ reservations at Delta, and an iPhone, and all works perfect? If not, I will stay away from the “dark side”! 😉
iPad app is even worse.
I have 18, works fine on iPhone 5. Decent start, the update is asynchronous, so you can start moving around the app without having to wait. It gets really fast once your data has been updated. Which is probably faster for some one with less itineraries.
The iPad (2nd gen) is another story, all those intro videos and none-async data loading are annoying. And it’s for nothing because they use the app as a web wrapper, since they call site pages inside the app instead of light data only display like the iPhone.
@Rob – OUTSTANDING feedback. My thanks for your comment and feedback.
I’m running it on my blackberry and it took 4 seconds to load each screen. Only 1 itinerary currently though.
My iPhone app is working just fine. Fast and no issues.
The app is working fine for me, speed is good — I have an iPhone 4S. Only have a few itineraries at the present time.
I only have 7 trips planned, but it seems to work pretty well on my iPhone 5.
The iPhone is the only way to go. If you are in a LTE area it will open fast and the update time is pretty good. I currently have 7 reservations. The iPad app… They should start over. If you use it on GoGo it is a slug in reverse! If it is on an older GoGo plane (hardware and software) then it is useless. Plus if you have a “delay” which could be early or late departure it is very hard to get to the glass window. I have actually given up on the iPad app in the air and mostly on the ground. I stick with the phone app or get on line from my computer.
No issues on either iPhone 4S and iPad 2. I only have two trips booked but app loads and moves very fast.
I have only 2, and it loads very fast, about 5 seconds. Delta 2.0.3 on Android 4.1.2 on a 4G network.
on iphone it has been slower lately like the other day when i was phoned about a 45 minute delay from lga..when i checked the app it did not respond right away it needed to update again …had just done so ????
lov 2 win and get a delta points luggage tag phone is slowing down an only 4 trips on mine
Yeah, fine for iPhone — better than Delta’s painfully slow web — though I can’t find the upgrade list last I looked.
Very few other users would have that many trip reservations to load… Rob may be the only one. My experience with the iPhone app has been good. Reasonably speedy.
The Delta app works fine on my iPhone. One thing about the app that is somewhat curious that travelers can use it to check-in for an international flight; however the very same mobile app does not allow travelers to book an international flight.
Yes, I remember the DeltaPoints post about the benefits of booking flights using Kayak. But it would still be nice to have international booking capability with the Delta app. Just saying…
No one seems to have checked in with an S3 so….mine opened with my saved password in about 8 seconds.
5 Itineraries.
Now if DL would offer some reasonably prices vacation destinations, I would be willing to add a few more!
I book all my international DL travel using the iphone app. It gives me the best prices and shows alternative itineraries on other nonSkyteam airlines for comparison. In fact it’s better than searching ITA or Kayak.
I have 13 trips, on Android, and have the same issues as you, Rene. Minutes to load, even on 4G and wifi. I’ll turn on my phone upon landing and by the time I’m off the plane it still hasn’t finished.
I have Samsung SII with Android 2.3.6 and Delta 1.7 with no itineraries. Loads in 4 sec. As you can see my device and software versions are old. That’s because I develop software and I never trust new versions of anything until they have been out for quite a while.
@asdfasdf – Everytime I’ve tried it, I get a message that int’l booking isn’t supported on mobile platforms yet. Weird. Maybe I’m still running the old version of this app. Will check iTunes for an update.
I have an Android phone and the App is a mess. Resukts are much better on my iPad, however it is still vey slow. It seems to deteriorate each week.
I have a slightly different problem on the iPhone. “It was fast; it was sleek; it [almost never] works.”
For example, this message comes up right away when I enter CDG as my destination. Almost no waiting. “We’re Sorry. Booking international flights is not supported on mobile devices at this time. Please visit delta.com or call International Reservations at 1-800-241-4141.”
It’s really pretty on the iPhone.
@ Mike. You cannot book any international flights with delta’s iPhone app as of yet, only domestic. Hopefully that will change in the near future.
Works fast on IPhone 5
It’s painfully slow on my Android. I am sitting in my house with a fast WiFi connection and it’s been sitting there for at least 60 seconds trying to refressh the main login screen. I have to kill the process often to get it to reset to where it works. After killing the process and restarting it runs faster for the moment, but I can guarantee you that as soon as I’m on the road again and have a mediocre connection at the airport it will not work properly at least half of the time. It’s about 40% reliable when I’m on the road. It’s highly annoying. It used to be much more reliable than it is now for sure.
iPhone 4S with between 15-25 itineraries at any time. App loads up fast as long as there isn’t too much else running and I have decent signal. The only time I have issues is Monday mornings when everyone else is hitting ATL for a departure.
store links to each reservation as a different bookmark, just look up the one you need at the time.
You might want to clear the app data and then log back in and let it download everything from the server again. You’re probably just choking on old data in the cache.
I’m on 2.0.3 also and it’s running fine on my Droid DNA.. then again I only have 2 itineraries right now.. but the only thing it will hurt to clear app data and cache is remembering your login the first time to get everything back.
That doesn’t look like an iPhone………..what is that…..thing? I think that’s the problem 🙂
Hey Rene – FYI: I have no reservations and am running Android 4.1.1 on a Galaxy S3 on AT&T, and the Delta app is as speedy as ever. Starts quickly and look-ups are as fast as the network/Wi-Fi will allow.
I have I phone 5 with 15 reservations and works fine!
I have a Android Google Nexus and this app is a huge improvement for me. Loads quickly and navigates with far more speed than the previous app, with six reservations.
The previous iteration used to crash so often for me that I never flew without a paper copy of my boarding pass.
Similar experience this weekend on my nexus 4 running stock android 4.2.2 and delta app 2.0.3
