I am stoked and looking for a good black light dive light and GoPro as I just booked my stay/dive trip for my return to Grand Cayman this winter!
We are doing almost a clone of the trip last year, back to the outstanding Reef Resort, and Torutuga Divers (the east end gang not the 7 mile crew)! Rather than return to the Kittiwake we will trade that for a night dive or two as the sunset sail, part of the package, was lame.
We already booked the flights on Delta on Hawaiian points and will have to drive to DTW to start the trip, but it will in some ways be worth it to avoid a CRJ to start the trip. I so wish we could get a few larger birds out of SBN. We will see.
The car, unlike last time when I thought I was covered by my personal car insurance, will be a combination of paying for the liability add-on and the AMEX protection as you can see from this post HERE. I would love to find a better way to pay for the car but this way removes all stress and that is worth a bunch to me!
So how did we build up the total again so fast after we burned a 1/4 million UR points last year too? Well Lisa & I have both now had, each, an INK BOLD and INK Plus. We have both had Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card® Card. We both HOLD Freedom cards and max them out most quarters. We did a bunch of the $500 gift cards from OD when they had them and now are working on other ways to get 5x INK points including paying cell, cable etc and other ways too. We are now down to ZERO but getting TWO once in a lifetime trips is not bad for pennies on the dollar. Food (that does cost a ton in Grand Cayman) and my car is all the expenses I should have out of pocket!
I will share more as we get closer but just wanted to real quick share my latest score! I can not wait for two weeks of 80* water days and nights! – René

@Jane – txs – never done a night dive but reader say I will love it. I can NOT wait to try. Scary but will be amazing I think. – Rene 🙂
Enjoy the turquoise sea — if you get the chance to go to the reef known as “The Aquarium” (not far from Stingray city), go for it!
@joel – txs for the tip. did the stingray city once and it was fun.
Well, what did you spend the UR points on?
@gene – room on the beach two weeks and dive package. See the old linked posts.
Awesome! I just went to Grand Cayman in November and already booked tickets for next February. We are spending 70,000 United miles for two people (but also getting one-way trips within North America in addition) and 35,000 points a night to stay at the Marriott on Seven Mile Beach when it is going for $600 a night! Grand Cayman has an amazing beach.
Enjoy your trip!
Not sure that’s the best use of that many points.
Can frquently get decent hotel with hotwire….
@adsfasdf – oh that depends on very much. I have 25 years of happy wife, she like this place very much and on the water where the sun comes up (nice way to wake up). I can walk to dive boat and have a locker on the water for my stuff and place to clean up at the dock. All of it is paid for on points including diving. It is not just the cost, but what you get. I get a very nice vacation that I did not have spend my own money on. That to me is GREAT use of points! – Rene
