I want my blog to appeal to both new DELTA flyers and frequent flyers as well. This will be a hard act to balance and some days will slant more one way than the other.
Today I want to talk about how to travel on DELTA or any airline for that matter. Most people book flight with as little time in-between flights to lessen the travel pain and to maximize the time where you are going or to get to work ASAP. This is just wrong. Please don’t ever do it again (if you can)! Enjoy the travel experience and time off. How you say? How about this way.
I always “try” for 2-4 hrs between my flights. Travel is stress but it does not have to be so. For me the fun begins in planning a trip. I feel the excitement build thinking of where and when I am going. The “game” of looking at what flights can work (see Saturdays blog post). I check where my wife and I will stay for the least points and the best rooms. Cars, dinners etc etc. It’s all good and so much fun to plan.
If you have “all your ducks in a row” before you depart, you lessen your stress of travel. If you have 2-4 hrs between flights you can go to the SKYCLUB for time to decompress, relax, have a drink, free WiFi and even take a shower after a long flight. In Detroit you can call the Oxygen spa for a refreshing “chair massage” or more either pre or post flight. In Atlanta you have the XpresSpa. In Amsterdam there is one just under the International KLM lounge. And, since you have 2-4 hrs between flights, if you are delayed some way, you have time to make it thanks to your time buffer.

Anther great way to remove stress is to look ahead for other routes if things do go wrong. It takes about 60 seconds to look on DELTA.com for all the flights from point A-B for your day (you do this by just starting to book a flight for your day / next day and print all the routes). This way, if you have to call, tweet or ask for help you know what is available and you can pick the best for you.
You may say, “wait this is work!” Yes – travel can be stress if you do not do the work first. But if you do, then travel can be fun and part of your day off. You may also say, “I have never been in a SKYCLUB lounge, how do I get in?” You can buy a day pass good for 24 hrs.

At FlyerTalk many who have SKYCLUB access will be happy to “guest” you in and you can stay as long as you like.

Many AMEX cards give you free access. Again, it takes some work but pays off in what you get back.
So next time you book a trip, make the trip part of the vacation and enjoy it. You are “off the clock” and fun time has begun.
And since we are talking about the SKYCLUB today – post a comment below (by 10PM EST) and you will have a chance to win ONE – FREE DAY PASS to any DELTA SKYCLUB!

Agree. Decent comments but am looking forward to Delta slanted stories and blog entries. Thanks!
Hey I would love a Delta Skyclub pass! Thank you for your blog and the info.
Am enjoying the “common sense” approach and advice, and especially as applied to an airline most of us deal with…thanks!
It can be so stressful when you are on a time crunch I agree! It’s a big risk of being delayed and it affecting your travels.
Thanks for the information…please enter me in your contest.
My wife is traveling to Asia next month and would love if she gets to use Delta Skyclub pass enroute stopover
Really appreciate everything you’re doing here, thanks!
I would love to try out the lounge! Thanks!
Great post-goes along the lines of ‘the journey is part of the destination’ …Thanks!
Thanks for running the contest for the pass!
Great idea on booking more time between flights. I look forward to more helpful posts.
Totally agree! I find joy in the planning, anticipating departure, scoring low cost flights, cars, meals etc..the fun starts before I even get in the air. Thanks
Great post! I always try to schedule the least amount of time during a layover. Never thought about it from your angle.
Thank you for the great post! I would love to have a SkyClub pass as well!
Thanks for the offer. BTW I appreciate the blogs that don’t taylor all of their posts to the traveling elite. Not all of us can travel 30-40 times a year but we still can benefit from these blogs. Keep it up.
I like how you can use SkyClub one-day passes while flying on any airline. Plus most versions allow you to use the same pass multiple times throughout the day if there are additional layovers on your itinerary. Always handy to have one or two with you while traveling.
Thanks for the post!
i love the tip about flyer talk guest! i had no idea!
I’ve never been in a SkyClub – sounds great!
I never push it with connections. I don’t leave 2-4 hours, but I do prefer a less stressful walk to the next gate.
I’ve never been in SkyClub either and would like to check it out. Good tip on the flytalk guest.
Thanks for your post and SkyClub offer.
I like hanging out at airports too, especially the ones that have lots to offer like Amsterdam Schipol.
And don’t forget that there are promotions for 5xday passes to the SkyClub for $99!
Thanks for the info. It would be nice to use the SkyClub on my Friday flights back home.
Thanks for the insight.
I do not fly enough or have status enough for a SkyClub membership so I buy into the club whenever I fly. I find the hour or so spent in the club relaxes me and really makes my flying experience better. Also, I have showered in some of the clubs and that really helps me to feel human again.
Im glad to see Delta investing in upgrades to its SkyClubs. I can’t wait to get in and see for myself!
I make the travel time “off-time” from work. I also arrive early at the airport so I can relax, even if its just people watching because I dont have access to the sky club. And I plan for time between flights so I do nto need to run from one end of ATL to the other and get all sweaty for my next flight.
Thanks!
Sounds like a good plan.
I sure could use the pass
I’d love to visit a Skyclub some day!
Your blog is the best with giveaways!
Skyclub would be a nice way to break up a tough trip. Sounds like a good idea.
Found your blog the other day and you already made it to my favorites on my phone and home computer. Minneapolis is my home airport and Delta is always the best choice.
I wouldn’t mind a pass, although whether I’d use it or not depends on the airport, as some skyclubs are decidedly nicer than others. 🙂
Great post!
I agree with others thanks for your generosity! 🙂
I had two chair massages at the Oxygen place in DTW. One was awesome, the other one was…well, I never felt anything at all. So your YMMV:-)
I would rather have 45 min layover and get to my hotel/destination sooner. Depending on the length of the trip it is better to salvage half a day….whenever we go to an all-inclusive resort on some tropical island, I always try to get us there by lunch so we have the afternoon, and I always try for late return flights so I don’t have to check out before lunch.
On other longer trips, without a resort waiting at the other end, I would volunteer to get bumped and relax with free drnks and enjoy the lounge, but that doesnt happen often.
Great reminder to plan ahead to make the trip more relaxing! Taking a few minutes to relax and even people watch in an airport can really make my own ‘busy’ schedule seem pretty lax 🙂
Good info
Nice post.
I loves me my XpressSpa… 🙂
Thanks for the post!
Loves the delta and your site!
Never been. This would be great for holiday travel.
A Skyclub Pass! Cool! Count me in.
Thanks. Hope I get it
Count me in!!
I am a big fan of Delta despite their skypesos reputation. They work really well for me. I’ve been tempted a time or 2 to go into the Skyclub but have not yet sampled it.
lol @ posting this on certain deal sites – congrats on your new blog and much success with it!
I love the D-Club! when I go as a guest. Just wiush i had my own 1-day pass for once.

I do love delta skyclub. One day pass, wow!
Love Boarding Area!! And I love Delta! I’m actually flying them tomorrow, in which I will become a Silver Medallion!
Completely agree! With a ton of flying in the upcoming month, I’m definitely going to try and enjoy the traveling as much as destinations themselves.
Sky club pass would be awesome!
I haven’t tried this yet – would love to try the skyclub with a one day pass. Thanks!
great promo!
like free sky club passes, love your blog
one day pass, please
Interesting blog. Look forward to more Delta slanted stories.
I’ll never miss a chance for stop at the lounge… even if i had a 40 min layover, i’ll still dash to the lounge for a quick drink… 🙂
I haven’t flown Delta in years. Looking forward to it this
Currently weighing up options from DC to Vegas, and Delta is cheapest. Have never flown with them before, so now may be the time.
Seems like a pretty good idea.
This sounds awesome. I may have to get a couple of these at some time.
Nice blog and good idea too.
Count me in.
flight next month w/ delta through narita, this will come in handy!
This would be awesome to win!!! The Delta Skyclub would be so enjoyable and relaxing at the same time! Thank you for the opportunity 🙂
Sure could use this. A layover in an airline lounge always makes the day go better. Thanks
I was always told that Delta was sky pesos. You are starting to interest me with your blog!
wow! i have always wanted to know what goes on behind closed doors! Getting into a sky lounge is on my bucket list and Delta is my preferred airline. Would love to win this.
Thanks for the generous contest!
I would love this 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway, I would love this!
I am traveling on Delta on Nov 30th with a girlfriend of mine to Vancouver to visit my parents and access to a Delta lounge on our layover in Minneapolis would be very welcome. Not sure how you join the lucky list but i must say that Delta is actually far better than other airlines.
If you do not win check with FlyerTalk to ask a member to let you in! 🙂
Love Delta Skyclub and love to have the pass!
Thanks!
Hey! I’d love to win that pass.
Am I too late?
SkyClub request link is awesome, thanks!
Love SkyClub!
Layovers can be great. A week ago I had a 24 hour layover at Heathrow, between BCN and ORD. Went into the city for an evening. It was great!
Good post,will come back shortly!!
I will be traveling on Sunday and I going to help me relax and enjoy this trip,
I would love to have access to the Sky Club at LAX. I have long layovers there often.
