As this month of breast cancer awareness comes to an end I hope you have done your part to help out with the fight for a cure. On one of my segments on this run an FA said, “if you want to buy a $2.00 lemonade, you don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to”! I loved it and donated $2.00 and drank wine! Another milestone for our Delta Air Line is taking a big step to GO GREEN for the past 22 years by beginning collection of aluminum drink cans on flights into Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City back in 1990 .
Going another step further in 2007, Delta launched a comprehensive in-flight recycling program to collect and divert not only aluminum cans, but also plastic beverage cups, plastic bottles, newspaper and magazines from landfills in 26 U.S. airports. Passengers, flight attendants, catering staff and cabin services successfully recycled approximately 1,108,000 pounds of material in 2010 and donated $35,797 through Delta’s Force for Global Good to Habitat for Humanity.
As I conclude a few (ok many) days of mileage running where my carbon footprint is admittedly not entirely so green, we can all do our part with the small things to help reduce the assault on the planet, right?! – René
