It’s been a minute since we published a mileage run — or status run, as they’re known these days. But for Delta SkyMiles members chasing Medallion elite status, this trip does most of the heavy lifting in one shot.

San Diego to Dubai Delta SkyTeam mileage status run itinerary on KLM August 2026

San Diego to Dubai Status Run — August 2026

The trip departs San Diego (SAN) on Tuesday, August 4. You fly San Diego to Amsterdam (AMS) to Dubai (DXB), arriving on Wednesday. You have a full day Thursday to explore the city, catch up on sleep, or both. Your return begins with a 1:00 AM Friday departure — Dubai to Amsterdam to Minneapolis (MSP) to San Diego — wrapping the loop in just under a week.

Google Flights showed availability across other dates as well, so August 4 isn’t necessarily your only shot.

The Numbers

This is a KLM Premium Economy “A” class fare. When you book through KLM and credit the trip to your Delta SkyMiles account, the “A” fare earns MQD based on 25% of distance flown. The SkyMiles calculator at Travel-Dealz.com puts that at roughly $4,428 MQD on a ~$2,265 investment — nearly 2X MQD on every dollar spent. You should also pick up approximately 26,561 redeemable SkyMiles (before any applicable Medallion bonuses) and an estimated 17,707 miles toward lifetime Million Miler status.

That’s a meaningful chunk of Platinum in one trip.

⚠️ Read This Before You Book

Important: The Delta Main Cabin Wrinkle KLM books the Amsterdam to Minneapolis and Minneapolis to San Diego legs as Delta Main cabin — even though the overall ticket is filed as a KLM “A” fare. This matters because Delta Main cabin legs on a partner fare earn MQD differently than the international Premium Economy segments. The MQD estimate above reflects the full itinerary as KLM prices it; your actual MQD may vary depending on how those domestic segments post.

Bottom line: The math is still very favorable, but go in with eyes open. If you’re unsure how partner crediting works on mixed-cabin itineraries, this is exactly the kind of trip where getting expert help is worth it.

⛔ The Most Important Thing in This Post

CREDIT THIS TRIP TO YOUR DELTA SKYMILES NUMBER. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH DELTA.COM. DO NOT CREDIT TO AIR FRANCE-KLM FLYING BLUE.

I can’t stress this enough. If you book through Delta, you won’t get the KLM “A” fare MQD rate — you’ll get Delta’s own earning structure. If you credit to Flying Blue instead of Delta SkyMiles, you will earn Flying Blue XP, not Delta MQD. Neither outcome is what you’re here for.

If any part of the booking or crediting process feels unclear, please don’t guess. Use a professional.
