An historical Chase Sapphire Reserve® welcome offer, how I used my Reserve’s StubHub credit, Delta is enhancing (good and bad?) cabin service, and more — just a few of our topics this week on the blog. Whew.
*All information about this card was collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. It was neither provided by nor reviewed by the card issuer. The Chase Sapphire Reserve® 150,000-point welcome offer breakdown. The previous public offer was 125,000 points. Before that, 60,000. We’ve never seen 150k on this card — and the offer is limited-time, so the clock is running. Or ticking. Both? Chase points transfer 1:1 to Flying Blue, Hyatt, United, and more. Delta fans: Flying Blue is a Delta transfer partner. Worth remembering. Read the full breakdown here — and apply if it makes sense for you.
I wrote about how I used the Chase Sapphire Reserve®’s StubHub credit — specifically, to buy North Dakota State Bison football tickets for their inaugural Mountain West season. The $300 annual StubHub credit ($150 per half-year) is one of those benefits that’s easier to use than it looks — and if you’re sitting on the 150k welcome offer above, it’s worth knowing you can knock some of that $795 annual fee down almost immediately.
While we’re on the credit card beat: if you have the American Express Platinum Card®, your Saks Fifth Avenue benefit expires June 30 — for good. That’s up to $50 in statement credit for eligible purchases at Saks or saksfifthavenue.com, and this is reportedly the last hurrah for this particular perk. Mother’s Day is, well, today, which makes the timing perfect — for a belated gift. Here’s how to put the credit to work before it disappears.
On the Delta front: starting May 19, the airline is adjusting its cabin service thresholds for short-haul flying. Flights 349 miles or fewer will no longer receive snack and beverage service (Delta First excepted), but the upside — and there genuinely is one — is that flights over 350 miles now get full beverage service, down from the previous 500-mile minimum. It’s a rare situation where Delta giveth and taketh away in the same announcement. As always, I have some honest thoughts on whether this matters as much as people think.
Finally, if you missed Saturday’s standalone travel news post: alcohol limits on flights, a Delta go-around caught on a livestream, the ongoing airline bankruptcy wave, and — there’s no delicate way to say this — a “poonami” threatening a U.S. beach. It’s a week in travel. Catch up on the week’s travel news here.
