How to Find Out What Meal Delta Will Serve on Your Flight — Before You Even Board

If you’ve ever wanted to know exactly what you’re going to eat before you even get to the airport, Delta actually has a tool for that — most people just don’t know it exists. Here’s how to use it, and what to expect once you do.

There has always been a lot of interest around what meal you’re going to get in the premium cabins on Delta Air Lines. Delta One — Delta’s business class cabin — has, for as long as I can remember, offered an elevated dining experience compared to coach. When Delta first launched Premium Select, the food was identical to business class, just served on one tray instead of course by course. That didn’t last. During COVID, Premium Select got downgraded to essentially the same meal as the rest of coach.

As of this update, Delta is offering an upgraded Premium Select menu — better than a few years ago, but still a step below the cabin in front. Delta lets you select your meal starting 7 days before your flight, with a cutoff 24 hours out. But if you’re curious what’s coming further in advance, or you just want to peek before you book, Delta has a dedicated menu tool at menu.delta.com that gives you a solid preview.

Here’s how to actually use it:

  1. Head to menu.delta.com. No login required.
  2. Enter your departure and arrival airports using the 3-letter codes. In my example I picked Atlanta departing to Paris.

  1. Choose your cabin. For international flights, you’ll select the premium cabin you’re flying.

  1. Enter your arrival time (international flights only) and the tool will show you what to expect.

You’ll see more than just the meal — it covers how you’re welcomed onboard, the full meal sequence, and the complimentary beverage choices.

For Premium Select, the options are better than coach, but don’t expect the same lavish spread — or wine list — you’d get up front in Delta One. I have a recent review of Premium Select HERE you can check out to see what you can expect.

The tool works for domestic flights too — you’ll just choose your departure time instead of arrival time. In my example, I ran a Minneapolis to Orlando flight.

Since Delta doesn’t offer two premium cabins on most domestic flights — transcontinental routes being the main exception — you won’t be asked to choose a cabin. Only first class gets a meal choice on those shorter domestic hops.

Who Actually Gets to Pre-Order?

Pre-ordering has expanded past just Delta One. It now also covers Delta Premium Select and Delta Comfort+ on eligible long-haul international routes, plus select premium transcontinental flights and some Hawaii routes. If you’re not sure whether your specific flight qualifies, the menu tool itself is the fastest way to check — if pre-ordering is available, you’ll see the option when you look up your flight.

Got Dietary Restrictions? Delta’s Got You Covered — Mostly

If you’ve got a dietary need, Delta accommodates 11 different special meal categories, including vegetarian, diabetic, low-sodium, and low-cholesterol. Worth requesting well in advance of your flight rather than assuming it’ll get sorted at the gate.

Overall, this is a genuinely useful tool from Delta — but it’s not the whole picture. It doesn’t always show the local specialty meals Delta sometimes adds closer to the 7-day pre-order window, and as always, there can be last-minute catering issues that change what actually shows up on your tray. Treat it as a strong preview, not a guarantee. – René

I am flying in Upper Class on a Delta-marketed but Virgin operated outbound flight and KLM business class on the return. I paid Delta for the flights. Can I pre-order my meals?
