The Fabulous Flying de Lamberts visited my family recently — and that gave us a chance to pool (some of) our credit cards that feature Resy restaurant statement credits!
(Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.)We decided to try a place none of us ever visited: BLVD Steak. There are two locations, both in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley: one in Sherman Oaks and the other in Calabasas. (We dined at the latter.)
This was a special dinner for several reasons. First, my wife and I love seeing René and Lisa! Even though they stayed with us for a few days, this was a fun double date night for the adults. (Our daughter enjoyed a night with Grandma and Grandpa.) Second, we tried a new restaurant. Third, we got to use our American Express Resy credits! Finally, there are no Resy restaurants where the de Lamberts live. There was one — and it closed, like, three days after they visited. The Resy credit is good only in the U.S.
And that’s our segue to:

Unless René and Lisa visit a major United States city with a bunch of Resy options, their credit often goes unused. So, this night provided the perfect opportunity to enjoy good food and friends.
BLVD Steak Calabasas
BLVD Steak Calabasas is located in Calabasas Commons, two doors down from a Starbucks. (There’s a Lululemon in the complex. Amex Platinum cardmembers can use their up-to-$75-per-quarter-statement-for-eligible-purchases there. Make it an Amex night! 🙂 )
According to Eater, this “vibey” steakhouse from chef Adam Titze is apparently popular with celebrities. (Calabasas is home to a throng of film/TV, music, and sports personalities.) Music mogul Dr. Dre invested in BLVD’s restaurant group.

René used the Resy app to book a Monday night, 6:00 PM reservation. We figured the place wouldn’t be too busy. When we left around 7:30, it was hopping! (People must’ve heard that two writers from Eye of the Flyer were dining at BVLD that night. I’m sure that’s what brought them in. 😉 )
I like the classic steakhouse booths!

The cocktail bar also pops.

BLVD features a patio, too. But that wasn’t open. We experienced the first of three cold, rainy storms that day and al fresco dining was closed.

Like many places to see-and-be-seen, BLVD’s prices are not low. At least, for the main fare. We ended up ordering “smaller” plates and still spent a chunk of change.

The only one of us who drank something other than water was me; I had a club soda and lime. Alcoholic beverages for anyone who wanted them would’ve dramatically increased the final bill. More on that in a minute.
BLVD Steak Calabasas’ staff is on the younger and attractive side. Thousand-watt smiles all around. (This is the show business capital of the world and plenty of Hollywood types dine here.) The service was fantastic. Everyone we encountered was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and helpful. We felt like we were the only people in their care that night!
René and Lisa each opted for Caesar salads to start. The salads were very big. Both of them said afterwards they could’ve easily ordered one and shared it.

Our excellent waiter, Colin, suggested the sautéed shrimp. Mrs. Carley and I shared that. She wasn’t a huge fan but I thought it was good. She didn’t particularly care for the buffalo-type sauce.

Lisa ordered the BLVD Burger. Look at that!

Perfection! Her review? Excellent. Like us, Lisa loves arugula and specifically said that it enhanced the flavor.
René was jonesing for a French dip after checking out the menu earlier in the day. He went with that and said it was delicious.

I love steak frites. If a restaurant has that on their menu, there’s a good chance I’ll order it. So, that’s what Mrs. Carley and I shared. She ordered a side of broccolini, which I don’t like.

As you can see, there are more than enough fries to keep our table of four happy.
The steak is marinated in a garlic soy sauce. I’m mildly allergic to soy. Nothing serious — I basically get congested for an hour or so afterwards. But I risked it in the name of steak frites! The marinade was very good — Mrs. Carley enjoyed it a little more than I did.
We ordered our steak medium rare. It certainly was (and quite tasty).

None of us had room for dessert. We’re certain, though, that their sweet treats must be wonderful.
Paying with Amex Resy Cards
The bill came out to $237.
René used his personal/consumer Amex Platinum card to pay $100. Lisa used her personal/consumer Amex Platinum to pay $100. I used my Delta Business Amex Reserve Card to pay the balance and some gratuity. (We provided more tip in cash.) I used the Reserve because it was coming toward the end of the month. I wanted to save my quarterly Amex Platinum and semi-annual Amex Gold Card Resy credits for another time — maybe a return visit to BLVD!
All said and done, I think dinner cost us something like $50. That’s a heck of a good deal.
Final Approach
If you find yourself in the Calabasas area of Los Angeles — or maybe Sherman Oaks — we think BLVD Steak is a great way to use your Resy credit. Fantastic food and service. We’ll definitely be back.

Looks like a great meal and tough to beat the company!
We are blessed in Atlanta with LOTS of Resy restaurants, some of them quite reasonably priced. In our household we have four cards that earn monthly Resy credits and two with quarterly or bi-annual credits. We try to take full advantage and be strategic. Like y’all, we frequently split the bill in order to use two credits per meal bringing down the cost and the number of Resy restaurants we “need” to visit each month. We just used a personal Gold card credit on Valentine’s day while on a trip to Portland Maine to take $50 off the bill. The AmEx coupon book can be tedious but also lucrative.
One of our favorite restaurants about 15 minutes from our house was a Resy place (happy coincidence) — but just left the program. Another restaurant nearby was Resy (it used to be great but now? Eh.) and that just bolted from Resy, too. Maybe the membership fees were too high for what they got in return? Maybe not enough people knew about the program? I also wonder if some people who hold Amex Platinum and Amex Gold cards hear about the Resy benefit but don’t enroll in the benefit. That might affect how a restaurant sees its Resy investment.
So nice you all had a Flyer reunion… Looked like a fun night. The steak prices look the same or less than in Napa!!We have a few local Resy places in Jax.. our favorite is BB’s or Biscotti’s..
