Are your days as screwed up as mine? On Thursday morning, my wife asked if friends were coming over NFL football the next day. Why? There was so much college football on in our house the previous two days, she thought that Friday was Sunday. When I was at the grocery store on Friday morning, I thought it was Wednesday.
I think things will get back to normal next week. But last week, here’s what we covered on the blog!
If you ever visit South Bend for a Notre Dame football game — or anything else — we know someplace you might not want to stay.
A bunch of statement credits expired on New Year’s Eve — but when the New Year hit, they reset on January 1! Here they are.
Depending on when you read this, there might still be time to cash in on a big Capital One offer.
René deLambert wrote a great piece about using travel insurance.
Finally, here are our most-viewed blog posts from 2025! To expand on René mentioned: some posts take us hours of research, prep, writing, and photo editing. (Trip reports are major loss leaders. Big time. But taking trips is so much fun!) Or we’ll brainstorm an idea, outline it, write the post, and publish it — thinking hundreds of thousands of people will find it interesting. It’s happened several times. But there are plenty of other instances when it falls completely flat.
And then there are posts like our #1 most-read. And #18. Darkly interesting things that don’t necessarily enhance anyone’s travels but people still want to read and watch.
But, hey! Here we are — and we thank you!
Happy New Year! Make it your best ever!

Can Rene please list the exact policy he purchases? I went to the Allianz site to take a look at a yearly policy (as I buy the occasional trip/car insurance from them) and they have about 45 policies that all sound alike. A little guidance for one that works would be helpful. Thanks!
@BookGirl305 – It is the “All Trips Premier” plan. You can tweak it but I go with the lowest levels. Some go higher for more for full cruise fee coverage.
They quoted me the same $485 for a 1 person quote.
@BookGirl305 – For two travelers? It should be $485 total. I re-upped just last month so I would check again.
The headline includes “blog ending?” but then nothing is mentioned in the article. I certainly hope not. Rene and Chris have been my go-to for close to a decade.
I made a last-minute edit to end on a more positive note — but forgot to revise the headline until now. Thanks for the reminder! Like I said at the end, we’re here now and we thank you! 🙂
I appreciate the kind words.
