This post provides a more detailed examination of the cards and their features.

As High As 175,000 Bonus Points: The Platinum Card® from American Express
Sitting on the fence about getting American Express Platinum Card®? This may make your decision easier: Amex announced its iconic Amex Platinum Card is undergoing a major refresh this fall. I’ve written about travel rewards credit cards for ten years. Every big card refresh (aside from just an art update) included an annual fee increase. I expect the Amex Platinum’s $895 annual fee to jump. (Rates & Fees) Word on the streets is $895.
If you get the Amex Platinum Card before the annual fee increase, you’re not on the hook for the difference. Will you get to enjoy the added benefits of the refreshed card? Maybe, maybe not. Amex has been very good about letting their existing members kick the tires on new features. I’m not saying that’ll definitely be the case this time around. But if history is any indicator, we can be rightfully hopeful. (Do not let us down, Amex.)
There’s also a big offer, too. You can earn as high as 175,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $8,000 on eligible purchases on the card within the first six (6) months of being approved for card membership. (Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer. Terms apply.) Read more and learn here how to apply.
If you like the offer Amex presents you, great! Your credit won’t possibly be affected until you accept the offer. No harm, no foul if you don’t like what they give you.

Right now, you can earn as high as 100,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 in eligible purchases within six (6) months of being approved for the card. (Terms apply. Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer.) –> You can learn here how to apply for this promotion <–.

- Earn 3X points on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com
- Up to $120 Uber Cash: Earn up to $120 in Uber savings on rides or Uber Eats orders in the US annually. (Receive $10 in Uber Cash each month.) Uber Cash is available to the primary cardholder only. An Amex Card must be selected as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction to redeem the Amex Uber Cash benefit. (Enrollment is required. Terms apply. Uber Cash deposits are made monthly and expire if not used. To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible Amex Gold Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.)
