Holy cow it is HOT this weekend! I mean I have been begging for summer to, at last, arrive in the Midwest but this is brutal. When even the squirrels are just laying around in the shade it is time to stay indoors. If you too are stuck indoors then take the time to review the busy week in points land:
There is a rumor, that sure sounds like it is true, that Delta Air Lines and Amex are going to come out with yet another co-branded travel card. Not just that but it will likely have one of the largest yearly fees of any credit card EVER. Yikes!
If you are a frequent floater i.e. a cruise fan you are really NOT going to like the changes on the way from Chase to the Sapphire Reserve card. In a nutshell your points, when booking a cruise, are going to drop by 33% in value. Yeah, it’s ugly.
Speaking of Chase, Chris has an in-depth review of all the coming changes to the Sapphire Reserve. Will the new coupon style benefits be enough to offset the jump in yearly fee? See if you think so.
This really has been an awful week in points land as another big perk is being gutted. This time it is a change to one of my favorite cards and the devaluation is again 33% (Amex says to Chase – hold my beer). This one hurts – and hurts bad.
Carnival loyalists got a swift kick in the backside this week when they killed off lifetime status that you may have been earning for a very long time. Soon you will have to spend a simply insane amount of cash to keep top status that you reached by sailing so many nights with them.
There is some good news this week and it comes in the form of an offer to get a massive five free nights from just one card. This could take care of a bunch of pre-cruise nights in the port city you are flying to or just a nice vacation for the better part of a week. Love this.
As Chris said it really is raining limited time offers and now you have a chance to score one of the biggest offers yet and, surprisingly, there is no family language in this offer. Nice!
Lastly this week we now know the categories for 5x for a number of cards for Q3. You can register for them NOW and I would do so while you are thinking about it to not miss out on a bunch of points.
Stay cool everyone and if you do have to be outside please be sure to hydrate and take it easy. I had heat stroke once when I was younger and it is nothing to mess around with! – René
