If you are anything like me you will be spending a lot of time this weekend glued to your TV watching the 89th Masters tournament and marveling over one of the most stunning golf courses in the world. I have never visited but would love to do so one day. Beyond golf, look at what else happened this week on the blog:
I dropped all the way down to Gold Medallion this year with Delta Air Lines. This was due to not spending, or flying, that much with the airline in 2024. In fact I would have been just Silver Medallion had it not been for the fact that I am a Million Miler that grants me Gold status. This has really changed how I go about booking my Delta flights. There are ways we can game it to see better results. See what I do this week.
Chris took a recent trip and flew Delta on an award ticket and got some rather odd information from Delta reps and not just once but twice. How you paid for your ticket, that is, cash or an award should have 100% zero impact on the perks you receive but Delta reps seem to think otherwise. I would have been furious!
Even if you have never taken a cruise the one thing you probably know about is that fact that there is food – lots of food – onboard. One of my favorite cruise lines is NCL. Is the food one of the reasons they are the one I tend to book? We’ll take a look at breakfast – lunch – dinner reviews (and more)!
The American Express Platinum card, both personal and business flavors, have become “coupon books” giving you rebates for certain spending each year to help offset the massive fee they charge. They are changing some of the credit for next year and I am NOT happy with the updates. See if they bug you too.
QR codes are now everywhere. I love restaurants that provide them for a link to their menus (so I don’t have to touch the dirty ones everyone handles) as well as a wine list and so on. But you have to be really careful with QR codes as unknown ones could take you to nefarious sites. When it comes to tipping we are also seeing QR codes. Is this a good idea? Readers chime in.
Lastly, and I have said this over and over and over, you should be looking at going for new cards when the bonus is massive. One of our favorite points programs that holds REAL value has the largest EVER new card bonus for this card. Time to consider going for this one if you can.
So now back to golf 🙂 ! My buddies and I had such a great time up in the Gaylord, MI area last year and can not wait to return this fall. I have not booked yet but it looks like The Tribute at the Otsego club will be included again – I can’t wait for fall! – René

Random question.
Bought a ticket. Canceled. Have one year to use. If it gets close to that expiration can I buy a refundable fare with the credit and then get a refund?
That’s something I’ve never tried. You could probably try it now before expiration and see what happens.
