My desk has finally completely stopped moving after my last cruise. For you who do not know, when you spend many weeks at sea, you tend to get a bit land-sick when back on dry land because you still feel the movement of the ship for a while. I can not wait to share my Panama Canal cruise but for now let’s review last week on the blog:
It has been like forever since I penned a post about Delta Comfort Plus seats and if they are worth it or not. Now that we are in 2025 Chris tackles the subject to see if all the latest updates make this “upgraded” seat worth the price. See if you agree or not (many readers have, ah hem, colorful comments)!
Oh, Southwest airlines. What were you thinking? I mean first you spring on us that THE THING that makes you you is going away as well as most of the other things that make you you! But there has been such a backlash that just maybe they will bring back the free bags? We shall see.
For many years Delta only sent plastic tags to all elite levels (well other than Delta 360* that is). Then Diamonds started getting metal bling and those who were million milers got that badge too on tags (the lower ranks also got MM badges but plastic tags). Well just recently you could, even at lower levels, request metal tags as we blogged about here. But just this past week those of us who are million milers started to receive real metal tags to replace the cheap plastic ones from years before.
About this time last year I took my second ever Carnival cruise (it was a mostly free match cruise). It was so much better than my first Carnival cruise years ago on a ship that has now been recycled in Turkey (amazing video of how that happens btw). But the crossing taught me that I am really not a Carnival fan despite the ship being nice, the food being outstanding, the service just tops and more. But if you are a Carnival fan there is a way to save 20% off your booking with this card offer.
Say it with me – we don’t pay for hotel stays because we use points. We save hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year because we use hotel points. Is this not you yet? Time to check out these biggest offers ever.
Have you ever taken the time to look at the Delta Air Lines thread on Reddit? What people will do on airplanes always astounds me. This week we look at questionable Delta food, feet where they do not belong as well as one where someone who claims to be a Delta flight attendant answers all our questions.
At last I have the review of the very nice balcony cabin I crossed the Atlantic in this past fall on the Norwegian Escape. It was a family cabin and that meant a larger cabin with more space and I really was impressed. Take a look.
Lastly this week we have the escalation measles outbreak. Measles is not like chicken pox because it, measles, can kill people who are not vaccinated and catching it and recovering (again when not vaccinated) can have long term negative impacts on people. I dive in and discuss how bad a nationwide outbreak could impact the recovering cruise line industry.
With all this crazy weather I hope you are getting to where you planned to go! I am stuck on land for a while but while I have time I am still working on tweaking my flights for my next great adventure and trying to get max value out of every point I hold – maybe you are doing the same? – René

I don’t get cruising.
@FNT – It’s OK. Ships are too full now anyw. 😉
Hi Mr. Diamond – Cruising isn’t for everyone. I like it because I like to unpack one time, go to sleep in one city and wake up in another fascinating place. Traveling at night makes very good use of my sleeping time. My preference is for anything but a Caribbean Cruise, but hundreds of thousands of people disagree with me and love to go repeatedly to the Caribbean. C’est la vie.
Entertainment every night, fine dining, gambling and meeting new people are other reasons to cruise. Not getting to spend enough time in one place, not getting to go out at night in a city and being enveloped in a culture more like home than the place that you are visiting are reasons not to cruise. It’s your money and you should spend it the way you want.
Sounds like a solid plan, René! Tweaking flights and maximizing points is always a great way to pass the time while waiting for better travel conditions. Hope you’re able to lock in some amazing redemptions for your next adventure. Stay safe, and happy planning!
