It was nearly 60* in South Bend yesterday. When I was a few years younger (ok many years younger) we would always head up to Timber Ridge or Bittersweet just north of us in Michigan and enjoy the slopes. Now I am getting alerts from all my home golf courses to come out and play. SMH. Ah well let’s look back at last week.
You know what I am doing today? I am making 1 year out bookings with Delta using a small Delta gift card PLUS my Amex Platinum Business card (btw I select Delta as my preferred airline for travel credits). Next I will then call and have Delta cancel the ticket but not credit back to my credit card but instead create an eCredit to burn up my last few dollars I still need to get credit for in 2024. Chris recently used his Dell credits for the year this way to get his second half of the year $200 credits.
There is one thing you never ever do when it comes to cruising and that is flying in to the departure port the day the ship sails. I risked it. How did it go? I don’t mind telling you I will NEVER EVER do that again.
Travel cards have become “coupon books” and we have to work to get value out of the yearly fee for the cards. Resy is one such way and Chris even used his credit at a hotel. Check it out.
Speaking of hotel credits, my Amex Platinum Business card recently added $50 quarterly Hilton credits. So I ordered a $50 gift card and paid $1.95 to have it mailed to me and got the $50 credit in a day or so. Be sure you activate the perk before you do the same and it would be smart to look over the post Chris has up this week about the new perk.
Lastly this week I covered the Top Ten things that surprised me about Delta Air Lines in 2024. I bet 2025 is going to bring even more pain and it will be interesting just how many remain 100% loyal to Delta moving forward.
Have a safe weekend (maybe extended weekend) everyone and I hope if you are flying home right now all your upgrades clear and the flights are smooth and on-time! – René
