How’s this for luck? I visited San Diego to attend the Chase Sapphire Lounge’s special preview — and my hotel features a restaurant participating in the Resy program!
That saved me $30 in food and beverage costs. Here’s what it was like!

This post goes more in-depth on how to use the Amex Resy credits.
Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails at Hotel Indigo
I stayed at the Hotel Indigo San Diego-Gaslamp Quarter. That’s at 509 Ninth Ave, San Diego, CA, 92101. It’s about two blocks from Petco Park (a fantastic baseball stadium).
Two of my Amexes Cards (the Delta Platinum Card and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card) had their monthly Resy statement credits still available. So, I checked for restaurants in downtown San Diego. And Borrego — one of my hotel’s restaurants — is one of them!
Borrego is on the ninth floor.
The bar and restaurant are outside — and feature great views of downtown San Diego.
The location is great if you’re in town for a San Diego Padres game or something else at Petco. I’d definitely stop at Borrego for a pre-game or post-game beverage. Or dinner before or after a concert.
I visited during a somewhat breezy, chilly (in the 50s or low 60s) evening. But heaters were cranked up and comfort wasn’t a problem.
Here’s the restaurant’s current food and beverage menu. My only complaint is that Borrego doesn’t offer much variety besides rather exotic Mexican dishes. There aren’t even any tacos, fajitas, or burritos. (Then again, most regular readers of this space know I’m a pasty, boring eater of relatively bland foods.)
My first visit was late afternoon for the Blue Corn Chips & Salsa and a non-alcoholic Athletic Brewing Run Wild IPA. I paid with my Delta Amex Platinum Card and received a $10 statement credit a few days later.
I returned later that night for dinner. I ordered the Borrego Smash Burger (it comes with fries) and another 0.5% ABV Run Wild IPA.
I paid that tab with my Delta Business Reserve Amex Card and enjoyed a $20 statement credit.
The fries were quite good. The burger was fine. It certainly wasn’t bad but I’ve much better hamburgers. But for getting $20 off my meal, hey, I’ll take what I can get. But for people who don’t have the Resy credit, they might not be too happy.
This was one of the easiest Resy redemptions I’ve experienced, though, and I’m still quite pleased. If you enjoy Mexican food and need to use one of your Resy credits next time you’re in gorgeous San Diego, check out Borrego.

I’d figured that the Resy credit was an absolute scam. Then I was paying for dinner at a fairly fancy restaurant one night a few months ago and was stunned that $50 was refunded because it was a Resy location. I still don’t like the coupon book approach Amex has increasingly taken with their cards but I’m considerably less dubious about the Resy credit.
Well said, @Christian. My real only knock against the benefit is that Resy restaurants aren’t exactly everywhere. But as someone who lives in a big city and travels to other big cities, it’s a great way for us to save money on food and/or try new restaurants.
