You all should feel very sorry for me. I spent 3 weeks on vacation, including 2 weeks on a cruise ship crossing the Atlantic ocean, and did not get even a sniffle. Now home for 10 days and I catch a cold. Oh, and I am the worst sick person ever (just ask my wife). But enough about me, let’s look at the week that was:
It is that time of the year for those who are chasing Delta Medallion status. For many years you would find me, about now, flying a very long way to earn as many points as possible. While you can still do this with partners the way similar (and way cheaper) choice is just get a card and score a huge sum of MQDs.
It has been many years since I last flew Delta Premium Economy called Premium Select. I had not been avoiding it but had simply for most flights been in Delta One or other Skyteam (as well as other airlines) business class seats on long trips. With a short notice cruise booked I had a chance to see what the experience is like today.
I have been to the Atlanta Amex Centurion club for a few visits. I have never been very impressed as it never had a spa and you have to send two folks to the bar to get two drinks i.e. one for each. Well just recently they failed a health inspection and as of today have been upgraded from fail to a “B” score. Lovely.
If you have old Delta MQMs sitting around in your Delta account they are about to become worthless and null and void. But you still have a few more days to choose just what you are going to do with them, that is, either use them to extend your elite status or convert them to SkyMiles.
One of my favorite travel cards that has rotating quarterly 5% bonus categories has done something very different. You can soon get 5% back on Norwegian Cruise Lines spending. I plan to use mine to load my fully refundable onboard account with $1,000 and then get cash in had the day I walk off my next cruise. You can, however, get the 5% for paying for just about anything NCL including shore excursions or specialty dining and so on.
Speaking of cards there is another amazing card many go for when and if they are done with Delta cards. You can get lounge access, use the points to pay for flights or cruises and more. I and Chris both hold this card and you should seriously consider following our lead.
Have a safe weekend everyone and if you are traveling this weekend I hope you get there safe and sound and the lines and such move quickly and without too many hassles. – René
