There are a ton of things you are simply not allowed to bring on a cruise ship. Some of them are obvious like firearms (even though many years ago you could shoot skeet off a ship) and other things that could run the risk of starting a fire and so on. Others are more perhaps safety related, like any type of footwear with wheels or helium filled balloons.
But Carnival, per their brand ambassador John Heald, has made the choice to ban guests from bringing Bluetooth speakers onboard. This means if you try to bring one onboard it will be confiscated. However, unlike other banned items, you will get it back at the end of the cruise. Other musical devices on the prohibited list include boom boxes and radios.
Implementation of this policy seems to be the catchy bit here. I mean, if I have brought a Bluetooth speaker with me onboard and, for example, place it in the safe when I leave my cabin will the room attendant search my belongings and cabin to see if I have one? Do they expect to find these items in my bag through the use of x-ray equipment?
I have always brought a Bluetooth speaker with me on my cruises. I do not bring them to the public pool deck or sun decks as I am 100% sure others may not like me playing “my music” at any level. It’s nice to have the option of listening to music in my cabin while getting ready for dinner or some enjoy falling asleep listening to music. It’s a shame that “this is why we can’t have nice things” because some folks are just obnoxious and the result can be guests taking things into their own hands – literally!
The potential for some to now choose to play their music on their phone loudly without the use of earbuds seems like the obvious result of this move, so now we can look forward to more of that tinny sound along with FaceTime conversations screeching into our calm. – René

Even if they make it a policy that only in rooms are the speakers allowed, you sure could bet that there would be at least one idiot blasting there music like they are the only ones onboard.
