Normally this time of the year I would be looking at my last few mileage runs to make sure I enter 2025 with enough miles to make Diamond again with Delta. I have to say it is refreshing not to be worried about status for the first time in a very long time but I also wonder how I will feel this time next year. Time will tell but for now the week that was:
Are you using Resy credits from your travel cards? Chris has a good rundown on how he is using them to get maximum value from his yearly card fees.
We are likely only a few weeks away from learning if Delta will, as they have done for many years in the past, allow fliers to simply donate money to the airline to buy-up to a higher status for 2025. I will be shocked if they don’t bring this cash cow for the airline back.
I open and close travel cards each and every year. I always wait till the fee bills before I make my choice and then look at what options are open to me. Chris this week covers a reader question about what to do.
Amex is charging more and more each year in fees for so many of their cards. Because of this we have to work to offset those fees and that can be accomplished if we are diligent and look to see what targeted offers they are sending us. We have to “activate” them i.e. click them if we want to benefit for some sweet savings. Take a look.
It is not that shockingly uncommon for someone to die on a cruise ship and they even have plans in place for when such an event occurs. But what if someone dies on a flight? Do they divert that plane?
Lastly this week there are a number of cards that can help you save a ton of cash for hotel nights. Take a look at cards that offer free night certs to do just that.
Have a safe weekend everyone. With winter on the way for me in the Midwest it is time to test my snow blower and make sure I am ready for that white stuff sure to be one the way way too soon! – René

This is such a relatable reflection on the end-of-year mileage run! It’s great to hear that stepping away from the status chase feels refreshing, especially after years of commitment. It’s always interesting to see how our priorities shift over time, and only time will tell if you miss the status or find new travel goals. Thanks for sharing this perspective—looking forward to hearing how the journey evolves!
Lol, Delta Silver means nothing. Also when you break down $ spent, that whole loyalty program has turned into a scam. I was Diamond for several years, I’ve done my homework and the math. The ” loyalty” is all one sided.
