Royal Caribbean International has upped the ante with its latest Perfect Day destination in Costa Maya, Mexico. According to the cruise line,
“Perfect Day Mexico will be a hallmark of Royal Caribbean vacations that introduces new adventures in the western Caribbean. Vacationers have in store an unparalleled lineup of experiences and locally inspired twists across the design, flavors and spirit. With more to be revealed, highlights include an all-new, thrilling waterpark; jaw-dropping pools and beaches, restaurants, bars and more spots for all tastebuds; music and more.”
Costa Maya is a popular stop on many Royal Caribbean itineraries, but I’ve found that opinions vary on the quality of activities available. Personally, I find Costa Maya to be just fine. There are bars, restaurants and shops in the port area, I’ve made salsa and danced salsa with a cruise line tour, and I absolutely loved our private excursion to Maya Chan Beach. However, Costa Maya strikes me as a “perfect” port for a new Perfect Day experience.
Why Perfect Day?
What is Royal Caribbean up to with its new island destinations like Perfect Day at Coco Cay and the Royal Beach Club? One word – money. OK, two words – minting money. Guests love these experiences and while there are lots of activities included in the price of your cruise, there are also plenty of opportunities for the cruise line to upsell you to a more exclusive experience like Coco Beach Club (full review coming soon…yes I bought in) or Hideaway Beach (adults only) on Coco Cay.
Royal Caribbean is investing millions in these destination experiences and that investment is paying off with high demand for a vacation destination where guests can let loose a little. Will Royal Caribbean offer an itinerary that exclusively visits its Perfect Day and Beach Club destinations? I expect so, but only time will tell.
The Bottom Line
Perfect Day Mexico is the next stop for Royal Caribbean’s “perfect” island vacations. I’m excited to see the investments in Beach Club destinations on Nassau’s Paradise Island and Cozumel come to life and wonder if Royal has any surprises in store for us that we haven’t yet seen at Perfect Day at Coco Cay.
