If you need to enroll (or renew your membership) in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, you might want to consider doing that soon.
On October 1, Global Entry’s application fee increases from $100 to $120. Meanwhile, NEXUS jumps from $50 to $120.
The cost of TSA PreCheck apparently remains at $78.
What About Credit Cards with Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS Statement Credits?
Many travel rewards cards award statement credits to members who charge their Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS application fees to their respective cards. They each offer up to $100 in statement credits every 4.5 to 5 years for those application fees; it varies by card and which program you apply for.
Nearly all of them will increase their statement credit amounts to $120 on October 1. So, the price hike doesn’t affect you if you hold one of those cards. Not all cards offer NEXUS statement credits, though, so you might want to be wary of that.
If you’re like me and hold several cards featuring the statement credit perk, you can “gift” Global Entry, PreCheck, etc., to your friends, family, colleagues, etc.
Final Approach
Global Entry and NEXUS application fees increase to $120 on October 1. This isn’t necessarily a big deal if you hold one of the dozens of travel credit cards that give you statement credit for those fees. Most — if not all of them — will give you credit up to $120.
But if you actually pay out of pocket for Global Entry or NEXUS (or will), now is the time either apply for membership or renew.

When I applied for Global Entry, I didn’t have credit card benefits and paid $100. When it was time to renew, I realized that I could get more benefits for half the price, so I applied for Nexus instead. My fear that I might have to travel to the border for my renewal interview didn’t materialize as there was no interview. Again there was no credit card credit at that time. When I renewed again and found out that I couldn’t get the credit, I started to wonder whether it was worth getting Nexus given that I haven’t been to Canada since I got Nexus. If the price will be the same for both, I may just give up Nexus and revert to Global Entry to save $120, unless Amex decides to cover Nexus too. How much time does Nexus save these days?
