PayPal: Great for Holiday Purchases?
As of this publishing date, there are just 99 days until Christmas and Hanukkah. That means plenty of online gift shopping for many of us. You can earn back some of those holiday gift expenses by using your PayPal for your purchases. (Just make sure your Freedom Flex or Freedom card is your default payment method for PayPal.)
This also might be a good opportunity to load up savings through PayPal Gifts.
7X at McDonald’s?
I love Egg McMuffins and McDonald’s coffee, so I’m delighted about this promotion!
The Chase Freedom Flex® earns a total of 3% cash back (3X Ultimate Rewards points) on restaurant purchases. (This includes takeout and most restaurant delivery services.)
Here’s how that breaks down:
- Each eligible purchase earns 1% back.
- Purchases at restaurants earn an additional 2% back.
McDonald’s will earn 5% back for the promotion plus its 2% restaurant bonus. So, you’re hauling in 7% cash back or 7X points on your McDonald’s purchases!
Purchases made on my McDonald’s app code as dining/restaurant. Those should earn you the 7%/7X.
McDonald’s located inside other businesses or locations (i.e., airports, WalMarts, casinos, etc.) might not qualify for the promotion. I’m waiting for Chase to publish the list of eligible merchants. Sticking to standalone restaurants is a safer bet.
Pet Shop and Veterinarian Purchases
Pets can be very expensive. The 5X back from October through December will take out a little of the sting on those vet bills and big box pet supply shops.

Again, I’m still waiting for Chase to publish its eligible merchants list. But last year, you could earn 5% back/5X points if you used your card to pay for donations to:
