Video Shows Social Media Influencer Intentionally Wasting Lobsters at a Las Vegas Buffet

The Palms Casino in Las Vegas might’ve gotten some free advertising for its $80 buffet that features whole lobsters — thanks to a social media stunt.

But was that the point?

One Per Plate — It Doesn’t Matter If You Eat It!

Twitter user South Dallas Foodie posted a video by TikTokker “Mister Lewis,” a guy who fashions him a “LUXURY CONNOISSEUR.”

Lewis is seen at the Palms’ all-you-can-eat buffet — with stacks of whole lobsters and lobster tails on plates at his table. At one point, an employee approaches Lewis and tells him he must consume all the lobsters if he wants to return for more.

“It says one per plate,” Lewis tells the man. Basically, Lewis insists he can take whatever he wants from the buffet — and doesn’t have to eat it.

Alas, there’s apparently a sign inside the restaurant stating that patrons must finish the lobster on their plate before returning for seconds. (Or thirds. Or fourths. Or…)

A fellow customer tries to intervene but Lewis shoots back, “Who are you? I wasn’t talking to you!”

Charming.

Someone who appears to be a manager comes over to document the wasted crustaceans. Then, we see Lewis dumping a bowl of melted butter over nearly a dozen lobster tails.

Then he shoves a couple of them into his mouth. So luxurious! He says the lobster was delicious — especially for $80! The video ends with him in the kitchen, dumping plates of lobster into a trash can. “You’re not supposed to be in here!” voices tell him.

Tasty Advertising?

Internet reaction was swift, with plenty of people calling for Lewis to be banned from the property. Many others said words to the effect of “forget him.” Others wish the mafia still ran Las Vegas, thinking the mob would’ve handled things in their unique way.

Others wonder if the whole scenario was cooked up (or boiled up, as it were).

Jeff Broman noted, “At the end he is throwing everything away in the back of house. Makes me think this was staged.” (Right? I suppose you could quickly sneak into the kitchen and dump out all the lobsters.)

And staging it might’ve worked (if that were the case):

VegasDevil1 said, “I bet more people will go here.”

MeMike said, “Looks like good advertising for @PalmsCasino_ I know I’ll be going now. I didn’t know this before. I’m also really hungry now! For some lobster.”

Even if it were staged, I don’t like giving people the impression that it’s OK to do this. Even if the lobsters thrown in the garbage can were fake, it’s still a bad look. Either way, it makes Palms look bad for appearing to let the situation get out of hand — and all that food gets wasted.

What do you think?

I think that stunts like this are why I loathe influencers.
