The Reason Breast Feeding is Not Allowed on the Serenity Deck on Carnival is Simple!

Although I really did enjoy my latest Carnival cruise on the GLORY crossing the Atlantic in April it did remind me that I am not the Carnival target audience. But there are a lot of things I really like about Carnival and that includes the Serenity adults only deck!

a group of chairs on a boat

This space gets you away from loud children, who are welcome to have a great time on their cruise as well, just not always in my space. For our crossing the number of children onboard was almost nothing and it is another reason I love long crossings as it is hard for the little ones to get that much time off in the middle of the school year.

Another thing I really respect about Carnival is the tireless job of John Heald their brand ambassador on Facebook. My head would simply explode doing the daily job he does answering endless questions from guests about ships and food and every aspect of life onboard Carnival ships. I would love to see, maybe not on Facebook but on some platform, NCL have this kind of position to answer questions loyalists have.

Recently John was asked the question regarding if it is OK for a mother to breast feed a child on Serenity. It was not just a question but according to the story someone was on Serenity breast feeding and was told to leave the deck.

As you can guess that set some folks OFF!

But he answered the question in such a simple manner and the answer is clear – a baby is not an Adult and should never have been on Serenity to begin with no matter what they were doing. Let the infant enjoy “lunch” somewhere, almost anywhere, else on the ship.

Really the same would go for so many other situations on the ship. For example, smokers are not allowed to blaze up in the dining room no matter what their condition. Or on NCL you can not wander around the HAVEN unless you are booked in a HAVEN cabin.

Lastly it seems this entire nonevent event may have been made up just to stir the pot and I am just so impressed the way Carnival’s John Heald covered this topic! – René

Rene, I agree with you about NCL having a platform for answering questions. I am a Platinum Latitudes member and have enjoyed NCL for many years. The last 2 cruises I took with NCL were not up to NCL’s previous standards. You can’t dine “anytime” in the Taste or Savor unless you want to wait 45 minutes. One gets tired eating in the buffet for every meal which is the only venue for “anytime” dining. We try to budget our trips and have found that Carnival and MSC are usually on the bottom of our scale of quality cruising. I would say that based on the last 2 or 3 cruises on Norwegian, they have joined that list. It’s sad because Norwegian was one of the better quality cruise line. Not anymore.
